Canon releases the Canon EOS R5 Mark II User Manual

Is there any mention of how to incorporate GPS info for still photo usage into the file automatically? I would think that they would want to come out with a future hotshoe attached module with digital in-shoe connections to work (so you'd have no cable from it to the side of the camera). They'd sell a lot of them, and I'd buy one for each of the 1 or 2 R5 II's that I hope to get.

edit: I looked in the manual about GPS, and they only mention the GP-E2 available for the R5. Too bad that it's discontinued! You'd really think that they'd try to mention a replacement coming soon.

Canon has released the manual for the R5 Mark II so you can read about Canon's newest prosumer / professional camera. The HTML web portal begins here. I think this is as good as we are going to get in terms of R5 Mark II specifications as many of the various websites have displayed conflicting

Does this basically rule out the possibility that we ever get a firmware update bringing 8K oversampled 4K60p to the R5 Mark II?

This confirms that 8K oversampled 4K60p is NOT possible in the R5 Mark II even though it was possible in the R5C years ago. Very disappointing. Nikon also implemented 8K oversampled 4K60p years ago so WHY is Canon lagging behind in this regard?

I hope a future firmware update addresses this issue! The R5 Mark II should at least match every feature the older R5C has so 8K oversampled 4K60p is a MUST!

Yes, it's in the "Communication" section. It seems the same as pretty much all other FF RF cameras: https://cam.start.canon/en/C017/manual/html/UG-06_Network_0140.html

So the old and expensive GP-E2 and/or bring your own phone with the Camera Connect app installed.

Soooo… the R5 Mark I had a section which EF-lenses would support Hi+-Mode in mechanical shutter mode (which were all fairly newer ones if I remember correctly).

There’s nothing I could find in the R5 Mark II manual on this topic - so is the LP-E6P powerful enough to drive older lenses at full throttle then?

I mean if the ES is as good as it looks it’s a non-issue but good to know regardless.

Based on the icon, this looks like a flash sync increase when you are in 1.6x APSC crop mode only?
The flash sync speed increases in APS-C crop, yes, but you need to compare the numbers in the table above to the numbers in this table:

So ES goes from 1/160s to 1/200s sync speed when using the full sensor. EFCS goes from 1/125s to 1/320s, a much larger increase (or rather, decrease).

The tables are in different sections of the manual :/

Ahh that makes sense, sorry I missed that.

I wonder why this is a separate mode and if there are any compromises?

There's an occasional feature in whatever possession that we own, that seems not needed or even silly.

Until it is not.

On a couple of rare occasions, I have found the iPhone's ability to tell me where a given image was obtained...to be extremely useful.

I'm going to have to check out this GP-E2 thingie...and its usage requires some other thingie?!

On the other hand, I almost always have my phone with me when shooting.

The GP-E2 should only need a single AA battery, the AD-E1 isn’t needed.
