Adobe CS6 + ACR / DNG 8.7.1

Folks,

I have a knuckleheaded question about Photoshop and ACR.

I have Photoshop CS6 in my Mac and I process my RAW files through ACR. As ACR is updated periodically for new cameras, lenses, RAW formats, etc., I grab the updates. Over the summer, I grabbed the beta for a new version (listed as 8.6.0.250 in PS for some reason) so that I could have a lens profile for my (at the time) new 16-35 F/4L IS. It worked fine, though once per day when I opened it, I'd get a message that the beta would expire after a certain date. Even after that date, it worked fine and I could use the 16-35 F/4L IS profile.

But today 8.7.1 came out and I thought I'd update things. It was a paired DNG converter and ACR update. I downloaded and installed it, and though the DNG converter is there, launching ACR from PS (by opening a .CR2 file) opened the same old 8.6.0.250 version of ACR with the beta expiry date message.

Questions:

Is 8.7.1 not compatible with CS6? Must I upgrade to CC to get it? (I got zero warning / error messages during installation of 8.7.1.)

If it is compatible, any idea what the problem is? Do I have to associate the newer ACR application with CS6 somehow? (I can't seem to find that in the preferences anywhere.)

Thanks!
