On the mk1 it’s a plastic donut that sits in a groove. It’s not painted on, as I assumed. The RF24-105L ring also seems to be a plastic donut, but flush with its surroundings.

Most black EF L lenses has the plastic ring. Except a few.

EF 35mm F1.4L II
EF 85mm F1.4L IS USM
TS-E 50, TS-E 90 and TS-E 135

I much prefer the painted version over the plastic red ring. All RF lenses seem to have the plastic ring. Except the large white ones.

The red ring on my EF24-105 also broke off. I sent it to Canon and they repaired it at no charge.

My copy is still going strong paired to a 5dmkIV. Though it wasn\'t the sharpest lens on the block, the utility surpassed its shortcomings.

Hopefully some more people are going to sell it in the next future; it's months that I'm looking for a super cheap one, 250€ or less, to keep as a backup to my 24-70 f2.8 L II (actually I'm looking for two, one for my and one for a friend). Basically it has to sit in the bag hopefully unused for the rest of its life, so the most battered I find it, the happiest I will be.

I got the email today as well. I think that means in August it can 'break' and I can use it for the loyalty program.

Had the mk 2 before....but sold it as I\'m using RF 24-105 STM more often, really surprised Canon still support the mk 1 for this long. If it\'s Sony, all a-mount are not available to fix

I didn’t realise the EF 135mm f2.0 L was considered a super-tele.
