Canon R5 MKII Flash Trigger Help!

Hi all,

Looking for some help and advice!

I have an R5MKII and I dont do loads of off camera flash or studio work but I do it every once and a while.

My knowledge of auto flash isn't my strong suit; what Canon has done with the R5 II seems more complicated than on the 5D Mark IV! I like to use manual, as I know what I'm doing power-wise.

I needed to shoot a couple of products so set up the studio and my flash triggers.

I have Hannel Tough flash triggers which are ancient and ive had forever. I use them as dumb triggers; essentially, I set the power on the flash and the trigger just set them off.

Started to shoot and the trigger was triggering both flashes but they were delayed so the image was as if it were ambient light. No flash intervention.

I was shooting:
Mechanical shutter
E-TTL balance - standard
E-TTL meter - standard
Contin flash ctrl - E-TTL each shot
Sync Speed - On
Slow syncro 1/200-30 sec
All flash function settings as default

My flash set up is also old, I use two 580EX II's always in manual but I dont think the flashes should matter if its just being triggered?

In the flash function settings it wont let me change ETTL II flash metering to Manual. The E-TTL is what confuses me because I dont need it in the studio but I cant turn it off in camera.

Thankfully, I still had a DSLR which works perfectly, just attach and off I go so I managed to get the work done. Going back was a bit of a struggle tho

I want to use the R5 II, and I assume my triggers are not compatible.

Can anyone give me some advice on the settings I may be getting wrong to make the tirggers work? If they are not compatible, does anyone have any products that they can recommend to trigger off two external flashes?

They dont need to be complicated im not that bothered about changing power, a simple trigger is fine for me. If you cant do this anymore than happy to hear other recommendations!

Thanks in advance!
