How many Camera batteries?

Folks I've only in the last year bought a Canon R5. I have 2 official batteries (one that came with camera, other bought in addition). I don't see me upgrading to Mark 2 any time soon. So should I get more batteries so I can enjoy the camera for years to come? I don't tend to buy third-parties as they are generally poor for longevity. Or should 2

Canon LP-E6NH last?

I can’t speak to the LP-E6 variants, the longest I had those was about 3 years and I’ve had the LP-EL for my EL-5 for about that amount of time.

For my 1D X, I used the LP-E4N batteries (the one that came with it and a spare bought with the camera in 2012) for 9 years, after which one of the batteries showed two bars of recharge performance and the other still showed all three bars.

I had an R5 with two Canon LP-E6NH batteries in the batterygrip for 4 years. Both batteries showed a red charge indicator in the R5 battery information screen for at least one year. I was able to shoot 3500+ exposures in one day with these two batteries and had +/- 20% charge remaining in each battery. This was after 4 years of regular use and an estimated 70.000 exposures, so I guess you should not have to worry about the longevity of your batteries for a while.

Thanks both, I will likely get another this year.....as honestly the R5 blows me away with it's general versatility and awesome images, heck I am tempted to get another R5 given current price on WEX, which would give me another battery :)
Getting additional LP-E6NH would be problematic anyway. Canon have introduced the LP-E6P, standard in newer EOS cameras and seem to have discontinued the former generations.
But there are a few issues with the LP-E6P, like a very quick discharge, mostly in colder environments. Others, like me, hardly get more than 200 shots out of them in an R5 II, at + 20° C. Paradoxically, many "unreliable" 3rd. party batteries last much longer in the R5 II.
So, either get an additional E6NH if you find one, or wait till Canon find a solution to the 6P issue. No need to hurry, worst case: Get 3rd. party...

I have an additional LP-E6NH coming tomorrow from the ultra trust-worthy Amazon.
I hope that was facetious. Sure, Canon and Amazon won their lawsuit against battery counterfeiters…

…but it was by default, meaning the counterfeiters failed to appear, most likely because they had already dissolved those businesses only to set up shop under new names and keep selling counterfeit batteries in the never-ending game of whack-a-mole.

Personally, I buy batteries and memory cards only from reputable photo stores like B&H or Adorama.

It was more aimed at the delivery lottery....where I am, its hit or miss as to when/if your order will arrive and in tact. I've never seen the same delivery driver twice! Hence I never order anything more than I'm willing to lose!
Not long ago, I saw a video of an Amazon driver :poop:ing in front of the door to the delivery's residence. No body wants that...

Wow, guys you are really careful.

I cycle my batteries through all cameras they fit in. Which means coming home from a shooting any battery I had with with me, goes into the “maybe empty jar” and I grab a few to replace them in the kit from the “freshly loaded jar”. I usually take on LPE6 in the camera and 2 in reserve with me. In total I own 8 of them which means 3 get loaded over the next days and 2 are in reserve for a fast grab if two shootings are close to each other. I load them with the Hähnel Procube II which according to what I learned here in the forum is the dumbest way to do, as the Hähnel does not have much in regards careful maintenance loading. I take loving care in regards to my camery but that love does not extend to the batteries. The Hähnel can load 2 batteries at the same time and I sometimes forget the batteries for a few days in the powered up loader. However after years of that unkind loading practice I do not have any dropouts in regards to the LPE6 batteries

As I currently made space in the shelves for the upcoming R7 Mark II I only hold a R7, 1DX2 which accept the "classical Canon form factor"

However that means Canon batteries from my EOS 30D, 60D, 80D 5d Mark 1 and 5d Mark3 happily power my R7 and do not show any weakness (besides the fact that the latest version LPE6nH seems to allow maybe 50-100 shots more than the LPE6n) The LPE6 batteries I use are almost 20 years old and still do their job.

My only backup battery for the 1DX2 is the one which came with my 1D Mark4 again almost 2 decades old and still doing the job.
