IPF printer incompatible with thunderbolt

I have an IPF8400 printer and a new 2018 MacBook Pro with thunderbolt connections. The printer doesn't work with USB-to-USB-c adapters. Canon tech support said, basically, yeah, that's right it won't work. Has anybody run into this problem and solved it?

Use the Ethernet connection? You can attach it to a WiFi bridge, if you don't have a cabled Ethernet network but just a WiFi one. There were once some cheap specific devices, but most access points, even an old one, and extenders can work in bridge mode. A bridge basically connects an Ethernet network (that can be even one single device) to a WiFi one.

That worked. Thanks.
