Rome - Street Candids

Currently in Rome for a week with Mrs Petach and some friends. We have a lovely apartment, close to shops and bars/restaurants about 1k from the Cathedral of Rome (St John/StGiovanni)

Couldn’t decide which camera to take….but BA’s generous 21 kilo hand baggage allowance decided for me. They all came!

The 6d with 85mm L f/1.2 & 70-300L, The GXR with 21mm Zeiss and a Panny FZ200 Bridge.

The Panny has done really well, especially for street work and scenics. I am pleased with it and it is very versatile at 24mm-600mm equivalent zoom AND f/2.8 all the way through. In fact, I have enough confidence in it to make it the only one to take if room is tight.

A couple of 6d 70/300L shots here

Hi Peter!

I suppose you have a good time there.
And some nice pictures you've got from "The Eternal City".

Some of the candids look like the people got a little disturbed by your photography.
Because I try to avoid this, I am not so into street photography. But I like it.

My faves from yours: The two suit guys #9&10 and the accordion player #12.

Petach, Did you have any concerns about this when shooting?

thanks all for the positives. Appreciated.

The old guy in the bar was a willing subject. He is 94 and thought nobody would consider him an interesting subject. He was pleased to sit for me. The guy with the pipe is from Bristol. He was also a willing subject. The others had no idea I was photographing them except for the dark haired lady who suspected it. She had her head down looking at her phone. She came out of the subway into full sunlight I was aiming in her direction. She got within a couple of feet and suddenly looked up at me when....presumably....she saw my feet refusing to budge. I activated my silent shutter but kept the camera to my eye. I didn't look back. She was in the can...job done....move on.

Cheers
