State Fairs

I went to the NC State Fair last night to get some photos of the rides and sights. I was able to go alone this year, the rest of the family would rather be going on the rides, rather than stand by the side and wait for one to start moving to get a neat picture. Silly people.

All of the ride shots were made with an old Vivitar 17mm f/3.5 lens on a Canon 5D3.

Nicely done! I would appreciate some information on shutterspeed to get these great shots.

If you click through to flickr, you'll see the duration on each one. I actually had everything set to "bulb" and used a shutter release cable to do the shots. My lens was usually set to f/8 or f/11, ISO 100, and a shutter length was mostly set to a phase of the ride doing a cycle or partial cycle.

Fantastic shot, I'm glad you waited. I got lucky in the shot of mine, where in post I noticed all 3 spinning. I was trying to get two, I didn't notice the third until later.

You can tell this is the JJ Abrams version of the Star Trek ride, it's got serious lens flare
You can get some neat effects with old lenses (shot with a Vivitar 17mm f/3.5)
