LOL!!!

It's not the Yashica of yore. The rights to the Yashica trademark now belong to a Hong Kong company that sells cheap electronic products sourced from mainland China under a variety of brands. Search for 'Hidenobu Kondo', said to be the CEO of the 'Yashica' team, and you'll understand.

For instance the Yashica FX-D 100 is essentially a Yashica City 100, but 1.6 times more expensive ($360 vs. $225). Both cameras have the same tiny (1/3.06") Sony IMX458 sensor, designed for smartphones and launched in 2018, as well as the same lens (3.45-10.5mm f/1.6-2.8).

The Yashica City 100 itself is an off-the-shelf OEM camera, not a camera designed by or for Yashica, whatever that name may represent today. It can be purchased unbranded from 1688.com, a China-based online marketplace designed for business-to-business clients, for around $75.

The Yashica City 100 costs three times as much ($225) as its unbranded equivalent.

This grabbed my attention. The Yashica FXD was my first real camera in 1981 soon followed by its close twin, the Contax 139 and eventually more Contax cameras and numerous Zeiss lenses for the next 20 years or so. The look of it brings back fond memories, but this isn't Kyocera bringing back that line or anything close.

You can buy a mint Contax RTSIII on ebay for the price of one of these. That is such a nice camera to use. The RTS III was a direct descendant of the Yashica FXD. If I really wanted to turn back the clock I'd grab one of those. The idea of dealing with film again is less attractive to me.
