In the dunes directly in front of my hotel at Platja de Muro. Let's say, I almost fell over those. Pure luck
But I had to get up early, 6 to 7 a.m. As soon as the joggers and the first beach tourists appeared, those little fellows hid in the undergrowth.
We stayed about 8 km north of there and saw one on a nature reserve. My wife got a shot using the RF 100-400 on the R7, but just for the record.

A Sardinian warbler singing on Mallorca.
But not for me, but for his girl (last two photos).

Nice! I was never able to get a decent shot of a Sardinian Warbler in Mallorca when we were there 3 years ago. Where did you get this one?

Canon EOS R5 Mark II Firmware Rumors & Speculation

Canon doesn't seem to follow conventional naming nomenclature for their firmware releases. R5's v2.0 didn't have much in it based on a full number increment.
That we can see, they might've overhauled the complete memory allocation framework or upgraded to a new version of dryOS. But I agree that from a user standpoint, the 2.x seems a bit overly dramatic for the changes delivered.

Yesterday hot and the usual birds for that location: Red-billed Leiotrix, Japanese white-eye and immature White-rumped Shama.
Today different location. I'm still trying to get the Chestnut Munia out of the grass for better posing - very shy in the grass and once on the branches it scores 10 out of 1to10 scale for shy! I got that one so close because it was in deep shade and probably feeling secure (f6.3, ISO 3200, 1/500s at -1EV correction - compensated in PP). The Common Wax-bill is by far friendlier...

Canon EOS R5 Mark II Firmware Rumors & Speculation

I don't have high expectations for 1.0.4
This designation seems to be more about bugfixes. And maybe not the important bugfixes. But who knows

Canon EOS R6 Mark III Resolution Increase?

They send multiple choice form surveys to a lot of users. Questions like, "Pick two from the following list (of 8-10 or more features) that you consider the most important when selecting a camera." Or statements with a range of numbers with "0" being 'strongly disagree' and "5" being 'strongly agree'. (These days they're digital, but in the 1990s they used to be hard copy.) The results are aggregated and I get the distinct impression from listening to those who are more in a position to know than I am that those making decisions in Japan mostly just see the aggregate numbers.

I was told years ago by a very high ranking Canon Technical Advisor in the U.S. that Japan takes free form suggestions regarding the 1-Series seriously from only a few handfuls of pros that are closely affiliated with Canon. I've also been told by a PJ acquaintance who shoots a lot of major college sports within a certain radius of his location for the national media conglomerate who owns the local publication for which he works that a lot of top level pros in the sports world know who some of those shooters are, and will offer suggestions to them in hopes they will pass them on rather than contacting Canon directly and their suggestion never being seen by anyone with any authority to consider it.
It wouldn't seem prudent that survey cards/emails are used for features on one hand and input from very few "pros" on the other. Nor just input from internal marketing employees even if those people are located in different parts of the world.

Extended warranty cards used to be a thing in some countries for some feedback on existing owned products but also not really a thing any more.
Those also seemed to be limited to some countries but Canon has enjoyed strong sales in multiple regions with very different average monthly salaries.
It is also clear that the % of prosumer buyers who are prepared to spend good money from their disposable income vs buyers needing a P&L return has increased significantly.

Clearly we don't want Homer's car but there has to be something in the middle.

Maybe Canon will ask ChatGPT for future feature suggestions based on crowdsourced ideas which would include Canon Rumors!

A Canon RF 200-500mm f/5.6L IS USM makes an apperance

That's it. We'll see with which specs Canon will finally come up. For me personally, a 200-500mm f/5.6 L quality zoom (that does not extend while zooming) would be very attractive. I think I then would trade in my RW 200-800, because I'd prefer a more rugged L lens design that isn't prone to break into two pieces. In fact, I find myself that I nearly always take my big EF 600mm f/4.0 III with me even when a lighter gear would do it, because I do not want to end up with a broken lens during a photo trip. So, such a faster 200-500mm + TC's would be a better solution for photographers with a profile like mine, and I guess I am not the only one.
We all have wish lists. Hopefully, we won't have to wait another year for an outcome.

Keep in mind this is a patent application. Canon files thousands of those per year, very few actually become products.

Canon Won't Be Announcing Anything Until Q4

So far we have in the RF 1.4L VCM range 20mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm the elephant in the room is a RF 85mm f1.4L VCM.
Canon release cinema lenses as a complete set yet at this level dribble the lenses out. The EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM took Canon years to release and it came almost at the end of EF lens development is this to be a repeat of the past?

Canon Won't Be Announcing Anything Until Q4

While I adore my R5 (and 5d3, hate the r62), I just bought an s9 after pitting it against a a7c and z5ii - the last 6 months full of research. This body proved I can get the core photo + video features that i wanted in a small body, without getting stuck in crop.

I took the s9 out last night for the first time - and had a joy of time using something...well different, and full of features canon will never*(?) give you. My shooter friend is going sony for other reasons - zv-e1 because he is focusing on small form factor, high quality/cinema video and AF. He also has a r5 and r8- so that says something there. The canons lens jail has pissed us off royally. The sigma BF inspired me to seek out a small FF body to get that Iq jump I always knew I wanted vs. canon crop. (That said, my m50 and m62 have treated me very well and will not be retired.) I can move the histogram anywhere i want on the screen, overlays for multiple ratios, and a metric ton of ui/function options. Nice! Even the way that you can change the size of your focus point with the control wheel is nicely done.

The S9 basic design isn't great at all, but the features are sublime. In comparison, my m62 has been in a smallrig cage for a long time- and i immediately bought one for the s9 to solve its abysmal handling otherwise. And aside from the lens hood, its the same general size profile as the m62 with a smallrig cage and a 11-22 for example. Man I love that setup, the cage makes it into a different experience.

I'm not building out a new system - the goal / my use case was a SMALL ff walk around 50mm. See I've been stuck shooting my 50 1.4 at 2.8 for over 10 years....wider than that and it becomes very unreliable. Well..now I am shooting at 1.8 and everything is sharp all the time, and easy access to luts/ lumix labs to cut down my editing times and shoot directly towards moods. Also to be able to try out lenses- sigma especially - that I simply did not have access to as a canon shooter. I did not go with sony as the a7c does not fit the design I was looking for (m62 /sigma BF) style body.

I can concede that L mount has its own lens selection issues - however the smugness of canon and the direction they took with the long overdue 50mm 1.4 guaranteed that another OEM was getting my money. Having access to all sigma glass was priority, and hopefully the tammy 35-150 will get a L release someday. But for now the goal was reached.

That all being said, I freed myself from canon lens jail. (y) :p ALL sigma lenses are now in my purview, and that feels WONDERFUL. Maybe one day I'll go sony if they produced a body that I want and exclusively place a 35-150 on it. Z5ii is fantastic but also does not have access to sigma ff lenses. and its not compact. My canon loyalty was rewarded with the weak RFS line, no re-release of my beloved 22f2, expensive AF lens prices, and the 1400.00 covered up busted optics 50 1.4 ripoff debacle. Life is too short to keep waiting on canon anything. Get the tools you need/want and get your work done. Fin.
I did the same thing. Went with the S9 to replace my M62. Using real time LUTs in both video and stills. Which Canon refuses to do with the R50V. Canon USA says that they prefer users to use their picture profiles with still images. I refuse to go that route. Even though Adobe LRC mobile now alows you to apply your LUTs from the "Profile" icon.
