EOS RP Lens Mount Adapter Strength

I'm about ready to dive into mirrorless, but like most can't give up on my investment in RF glass just yet. I mostly do sports photography and other on-the-move related shoots. A standard loadout for me is to carry two cameras via a Holdfast camera strap that hangs both cameras at my sides. Uses the 1/4-20 mounting lug on the bottom of the body with a secondary safety strap that attaches to the neck strap lug on the side. Lenses can be as heavy as an F2.8L 70-200 or F4L 300. Been doing this for years now with a 6D and 7Dii. Never a problem.

Now I'm looking to replace the 6D with a R7 and I'm questioning whether or not the lens mount can handle this with the required adapter ring. I really don't want to alter how I carry multiple cameras. Does anyone here see this being a problem? Thanks.

Problems with flash unit on R5

Good evening!
May I ask for some help please.
I´ve switched from another brand to Canon and I do mostly nature and birds. My girl friend likes to get photographed (portrait/traveller shots).
I fetched an EoS R5 and lenses for Portrait shooting and travelling. I also got an third party flashlight Ex600RT from Yongnuo cheap from the dealer for starting.
I´ve just one problem: The pictures are all underexposed - very dark. I tried to use the flash manually, but it takes some shots to get the right exposure. This is not practicable in the field. I´m not a PRO, who knows how to deal with light. I were not using flashlights before.

Can I ask, if there is an good book, video or page, that deals with flashlights and Canon R5? I did not find something good in the internet.
Thank you!

Fungus or dirt in my RF 70-200 2.8?

Hello,
sorry for the "maniac" question, but while preparing my photo backpack for vacation I noticed that under the first lens of my RF 70-200 2.8 there was that element that you can see in the picture.
In your opinion is it a fungus (or the beginning of a fungus) or dirt, a hair that I think may be coming from the inside of an old backpack that I changed just because it was starting to fall apart.

Sorry, precisely, the manic question. But the last fungus (that was under the first inner lens, though) in an EF 100-400 cost me, living in Switzerland, the equivalent of $600...
Whereas if it is just dirty, of course I don't send it for control but keep it so that nothing changes....

Thank you for your opinion.
Regards

Opinion on M Lens being discontinued from 3rd parties

I am confused about continuing down the M dead end road. I love my M50 so just bought a second M50ii body as a backup, own 22 f/2, and 28 macro and EF-EF-M adapter for some older EF lens I have. The kit lens work fine for my application as well.

Back several weeks ago with the announcements of M6mk2 and M200 ended and M50 in Japan discontinuation, I have started to look around and shop for more Canon EF-M lens just in case they too will disappear. Perhaps some crystal ball might appear, ha.. but the (3) EF-M Sigma's also are price reduced. Several 3rd party lenses are not in stock at all. But I hesitate, since the EF-M are not usable with R system if I ever get into it eventually with APSC. I am not interested in R Full Frame bodies or lens prices at all.

The online sales for 22 f/2 now are $179. and 32 f/1.4 $399. are pretty good, but locally (I am not in USA, huge customs duty for import) are $150. each more each so didn't buy them. I noticed online Sigma EF-M prices reduced also so curious if this is like a "Clearance" and "lets get rid of this stuff" sale or temporary and stock will be replenished? Logically seems like the former, but not a historian or know past events and want opinions. The EF line has been announced partially discontinued, so I feel like I need to buy more or go all in on Sony instead. I haven't seen the 11-22 on sale... yet? I have a limited budget and like the less expensive Sony APSC only lens that I don't need to worry about future proofing IMO, but with the M I need to make a decision, I believe.

The A6000 line (A6400 I just bought, but prefer the M50) has been on the market longer than the M50, and no indication it is going away, and could buy some standard Sony FF primes lens (Bought the E 11mm f/1.8 for $550. and a 18-105mm f/4 for $650. and Sigma E 56mm f/1.4 $500) at lower prices than any current R. From all the comments and reading I have been deluged with nothing positive for the M (R100 is just a rumor, and no lenses announced..) and get the feeling that Canon isn't in a hurry to compete on the low end (No Prime RF-S lenses) , which makes sense as its in the iPhone and smartphone price range and they announcing EOS R6ii are targeting FF and $3500.+ minimum customers. I get it, and feel like stocking up on all/more EF-M lenses might be a stupid idea versus buying instead Sony primes like I want an 85mm. I own a nice Samsung 3 lens smartphone too, and it works great for time lapse and easier for street shots. This is a hobby project, and already in too deep investment wise on both Canon and Sony systems. So what would you do?

New Sony A7RV will come on October 26th - New AF but no new Sensor

On some rumor sites some fake posting appeared. One rumor site that often got right information, posted thath the 7RV will be announced on October 26th.
Rumored, an AI-AF system will come - an gamechanging feature.
Sensor will be the same as on 7RIV. (from Sony Alpha Rumors)

For me, as I use the 7RIV with the 200-600mm lens (carryabel and much lighter than my R5,R3 with 600mm RF and EF MK II, this is partially good news.
Partially, because an new, "gamechanging" AF system is welcome. My personal problem: The 7RIV I own, is noisy. Over 800 noisy, abvove 1600 Supernoisy. So, why buy an new camera that will deliver noisy shots?

In my first intention, I will save my money and wait for the upcoming R1 (as some rumored pricings are superhigh).

AI Trained Using Watermarked Shutterstock images, Flickr, etc

Not sure how many photographers and artists know about all these AI projects evolution and their impact on your work and IP, ownership, 3rd party usage, data scraping, etc. Ethically speaking, imho it's dubious how all of humanities creations are being chewed up into AI and spit out. Going back to the Napster days and cultural change of torrents, file sharing, etc we have a entire younger generation raised on digital everything and some of whom do not place monetary value on other peoples work and creation and find ways to copy, remix, repurpose such. It's a mixed bag, and I don't want to sound like a knuckle dragger. If you have copyrighted photos online hosted somewhere, could be likely your work has been input into this AI.

IS suddenly not working any more

Although I treat my lenses were well, the IS of my EF 35mm f/2 IS suddenly stopped working. That is very annoying, because it is the main feature of that lens. f/2 combined with IS made it a night vision lens. I wonder what is wrong with the IS. Might only the switch be broken? Without the IS I basically lose four stops now and need 16 times the ISO to compensate. That makes the lens pretty unusable for low light unless I use it on a camera with IBIS in future.

89ae7bec2b6940109692b2a30cb1c869.png

This problem damages my trust in Canon products further. Two years ago the main board of my camera broke and I had to replace it for more than 600 Euros. I found out that many people had the same problem with that camera and it might happen again with the new main board in a few years. If something like that happens, I wonder if I should invest a lot of money into an expensive Canon camera again.

I wonder how much it would cost to repair the IS. Probably more than half of the lens price and after some time it may break again, as I do not think that the replacement will have a higher quality than the original.

As cameras get more and more complex, Canon might earn a lot of money from repairs in future. We still do not know how long IBIS will last, as the first Canon cameras with IBIS came out two years ago. And what about the electronic viewfinders? How long until they break or at least have hot pixels? The camera of my grandpa still works. How long will our cameras work?

Canon RF 24/1.8 versus Sigma 28/1.4

I'm in the market for a wideangle prime, and I'm really torn between Canon RF 24/1.8 and Sigma 28/1.4
Intended uses: astrophotography (tracked), after-dark walk-around shooting in cities and towns (travel), and daylight landscape photography.
Wideangle lenses owned already: RF 24-240, RF 16/2.8, EF 50/1.8

Plusses for the Canon:
- Has IS.
- Small, lightweight, which is a BIG plus for travel and hiking
- Native RF mount, no putzing with adapters (although this is not a big deal)
- Close focus ability (doubt I will use this much

Downsides of Canon
- Relatively expensive
- Consumer-grade build
- While the center is sharp, the corners aren't the sharpest and will likely need stopping down.
- Need to stop down to f/2.8 at least for astro.

Plusses for Sigma
- Built like a tank
- 2/3 stops faster
- Very sharp, even wide open. Corner-to-corner sharpness
- Occasionally goes on sale for 450-500 USD which is a screamin' a deal

Downsides of Sigma
- Heavy. I could be hiking or traveling, and if the lens stays home because of weight then what's the point.

Thoughts?

What Power bank do you use if you want to do long shoots so you do not need to swap batteries outside the studio

Hi, I have been away for a long time and eventually got myself a R5 in 2020 - just before the pandemic struck India. Now that winter is setting and hopefully the skies will be clear, I will join a group interested in astrophotography. As you know, these sites have no power, so the option is either to carry many batteries or connect to a power bank. I searched the net and YouTube and saw many videos and articles and finally decided that Anker has good power banks. There were four that I considered:
  1. Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K), 24,000mAh
  2. Anker PowerCore III 19,200mAh, 45W Power Delivery
  3. Anker Power Bank, PowerCore III Elite 25600 PD 60W with 65W PD Charger
  4. Anker PowerCore III Elite 25600mAh, 87W Portable Charger with 65W USB C Charger
  5. Anker Powerhouse 27000mAh Lithium ion 100, 97.2Wh
#1, #2 and #5 do not come with chargers. I opted for #1 and ordered it and purchased the UGreen 100W PD charger which I am using and am happy with. I also purchased a USB digital tester to see the voltage, current and wattage being used by the R5 and the other devices I charge.

Unfortunately, the Anker 737 has not yet arrived, and I have no visibility on when it will arrive. The dealer has promised that it will get it by the weekend, but I don't think it is arriving any time soon. If it does not arrive by next Thursday, I will cancel the order. So, I wanted input from you folks as to what you use so I can then look for alternatives. If you have not seen the Anker 737, do take a look.

Hoping to hear from you folks.

Thanks in advance.
