47 megapixel 1" sensor in Leitz 2 Leica Smartphone

Saw this today, wow. Largest CMOS sensor in a smartphone so far. Larger diameter lens? and 19mm. S

Sold only in Japan? Why is that?

States modes to emulate famous Summicron lens, so I guess internal firmware/software used to modify image. Says partner with Sharp, Softbank distributing, $1500 range.

Venus Optics will soon announce a Laowa CF Argus 25mm f/0.95 for APS-C

Venus Optics continues to aggressively release new lenses for the Canon RF mount. These are manual focus lenses, but Venus Optics seems to be releasing some pretty unique lenses that are quite well reviewed.
Venus Optics will officially announce the long rumoured Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 lens for both the Canon EF-M and Canon RF mounts tomorrow. This would be a fun lens on the EOS R10 and EOS R7.

Venus Optics officially announces the Laowa Argus RF 25mm f/0.95 for APS-C

Anhui China, 25 October, 2022 – Venus Optics, the innovative camera lens manufacturer had already released a series of f/0.95 ultra-large aperture lens under the name “Argus” in last year. And today the company adding two new lenses to the Argus series:

Laowa Argus 18mm f/0.95 MFT APO – MFT
Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 APS-C APO – Sony E / Nikon Z / Canon RF / Fuji X / Canon EF-M

The new additions provide MFT and APS-C users with an option of about 35mm equivalent focal length. The ultra-fast f/0.95 on them makes shooting in low-light environments easier than ever and easily creates a dreamy look with the exceptionally shallow depth of field. Both lenses also have the APO design, which performs very well at combating chromatic aberration and provides outstanding sharpness even at wide open.

Webcam utility pro announced, what do you think ?

After the announcement of this new, subscription based only, enhanced version of canon webcam utility, i would like to know what you think about it ?

IMHO, it's always good to have new features for our cameras to ease things in the way we use them.

But as each generation of camera get bundled with more and more features and on the other side smartphone photography is getting better everyday, the market for cameras is downsizing like ice the poles ! So our cameras are betters and but more expensives. When my 5D mkIII was stolen in the train in 2019, i decided to wait and go for the R5 as replacement while i could have almost 2 5D mkIII for the same price.

And now this new software, which shows there are helpful features that could be enabled in our cameras if Canon wanted to do so (like UVC), are only for subscription based users.

What is the point in selling 50$/year software to people already spending thousands on cameras & lenses?

I'm not in hateful mood, i'm just doing open thinking.

The new "Holy Trinity"?

Times change, and technology advances. Lens quality that was not possible even a decade ago is now here. Before 3 years ago, a hand held high quality 500mm zoom was nothing more than a fantasy. With that, shouldn't the "Holy Trinity" also be updated to be (something like): 14-24, 24-105, 100-500?
I have both the RF 70-200 and RF 100-500 and both are very sharp. They have some differences... speed and size (although the 100-500 is about the same size and weight as my EF 70-200 f/2.8). But by far, the biggest difference is the range from 200-500 in a lens you can walk around with. It is a game changer.
I think it's time to update the "Holy Trinity" in light of the new technology.

Four jpeg photos:
EOS R5 with 3 lenses all hand held at 200mm in dim office light and cropped to the very center of the image: EF 70-200, RF 70-200, RF 100-500. All virtually the same. And, just for grins, the same photo with the EOS 5Ds and EF 70-200 f/2.8 Mk. II.
The point of the 4 photos is to show that you can now take a hand held photo in dim office light at 25 ft and at 200mm that is the equal of the photo of the RF 70-200 f/2.8 in a lens that is about the same size and weight of the previous generation EF 70-200 f/2.8. Time to update the "Holy Trinity"?

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II should be announced sometime this year

We have been trying hard to find out an announcement timeframe for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II. We have been told that the plan is to announce the camera before the end of 2022, exactly when is unknown. We don’t know if the EOS R6 Mark II will ship in 2022.
There are people that base buying decisions on future products, and we receive a lot of “should I wait for the R62 instead of getting the R6”?
Based on history, these are the things to consider when asking this question.

Canon has discontinued another EOS M camera

I don’t think it should come as a surprise anymore, especially after the release of the Canon EOS R7 and Canon EOS R10 that the EOS M lineup would ride off into the sunset.
Canon has discontinued the EOS M200 to follow the discontinued the EOS M6 Mark II. Only the Canon EOS M50 Mark II remains in the lineup. We think that the rumored Canon EOS R100 will be the end of the line for the Canon EOS M50 Mark II as well.
We have no solid information about any discontinuations of EF-M lenses, perhaps Canon has a plan to keep those lenses...

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II has been partially discontinued in Japan

Canon has added another discontinuation to their EOS M camera lineup, this time it’s the Canon EOS M50 Mark II, the bestselling EOS M camera. It has been confirmed that the body only kit has been discontinued by Canon Japan, with only the “Double Zoom” kit remaining current.
It’s quite rare for Canon to discontinue products before a replacement is announced, but it has happened. We don’t think this is one of those cases, but time will tell.
This follows the discontinuation of the EOS M6 Mark II in May and more recently the EOS M200.
There should be inventory of the EOS M50 Mark II for a few months at least and some dealers may decide to split up their “Dual Zoom” kits to sell only the bodies.
We do believe that the EOS R100 will fill the void left by the end of the EOS M lineup and we’re really hoping that Canon releases some of the better EOS M lenses in an RF mount.

Has the Canon 600EX II been discontinued ?

They seem to be Out of Stock anywhere near me and Canon Canada (& US too)
I have an unreliable Godox V860III in for repair under warranty
I take 4 - 800 Flash shots a week for Auctions so I need something reliable
The Godox are not reliable for my needs.
I've found a couple of places online that may actually have the 600EX II
but if it's being replaced should I wait for a 600EX III?

Problem with EOS Utility downloading images?

I don't know if I did something different, or if it was a software update from Adobe or Canon that screwed things up...

Went to download a few quick images this evening, but the EOS Utility didn't automatically start like usual. My 5Diii was recognized by Windows, but it popped up a "choose what to do with this device" menu that didn't include the EOS Utility. For its part, the EOS Utility icon is still on the tray as usual. Opening the EOS Utility didn't work--I got the "Pairing over wifi/lan" EOS Utility Launcher, as it couldn't recognize my camera was connected.

I used that menu to update the EOS Utility, still no go. Rebooted the machine, still the same. I cannot get to the main menu as that requires a camera be connected. Windows Apps & Features settings don't allow access. Not sure where to go from here. I was able to use the version from several years ago, EOS Utility 2, to download images, but can't get the current version 3 to work anymore.

I did note that Adobe Bridge updated recently, and the EOS Utility auto-plays that usually as it downloads images. Perhaps that is connected?

Anyone else experience this recently, and know what to do?

Scott

Very wide/fisheye lens RF for R5/R3 system from Canon?

Hi all. I am looking for a very wide and bright lens (ie F/1,8) for my R5 full frame camera.
I do astro and landscape photo and sometimes I need a wide lens.
Currently I have the RF 15-35mm f2.8 which is of course great BUT in some occasions, a brighter and wider lens will be very much welcome.
Sadly the old (and still good) EF 8-15mm Canon fish eye does NOT cover properly the full frame of my R5 as it works better with a different sensor...

Why canon so far has NOT put in their production calendar a wide lens?

Can anyone handhold a 2 second exposure with good results?

I was reading about this new iPhone 14 on petapixel. The mentions his photo was produced with 2 seconds exposure and handheld.

"On the flipside, Night Mode is pretty impressive and does make a notable difference in quality compared to not using it. The iPhone will take longer exposures that are either calculated automatically or it provides you the ability to determine how long you want to make the exposure manually. I don’t have the steadiest hands, but even I was able to get a tack-sharp photo that had a two-second exposure time that was captured in Night Mode, which produced a photo with better color, better fine details, and better overall results."

So in my various years of experience where anything with SLR, older Smartphones, pocket digitals, and my MILC any exposure longer than 1/60 without support of a tripod is usually junk and blurry. The iPhone camera software must be doing all the work, or am I missing some brain cells? I had an iPhone with live mode enabled 7 years ago, and the camera was great, better than the (2) Samsung androids at the time on the same trip. In fact no comparison in IQ. I am still skeptical of a 2 second exposure being accurate without some trick in holding by hand. Appreciate any input you guys with higher end equipment and maybe side by side tests have done with normal DSLR's or MILC's- seems impossible but I have never owned high end Canon models. Thanks.

USD pricing for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM has leaked ahead of the imminent announcement

In a pretty rare occurence, USD pricing for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM have leaked ahead of the official announcement.
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II will launch at the same price as the Canon EOS R6 at $2499 USD. There is also a version of the Canon EOS R6 Mark II for stop motion animation, that will cost an additional $100 with the...

This is definitively some lens, I´d like to see from Canon!!!!! What would it be easier to use this lens (like my 200-400&1.4) at birding? Just adding the extender by a switch
But cheaper :)

I need a Black Friday plan for software. Lightroom / Topaz / DXO / Luminar Neo, Portrait Pro, etc.

Well, I used to spend a lot of time on CR circa 2014-2016, but my house burned down, I moved to he Caribbean, helped start a crypto, and just got busy as heck.

So, I've fallen way behind. Just updated all my gear, (even then there was nothing wrong with my EOS 5Ds and lots of L lenses). Bought a EOS R5 and 5 new RF L lenses and a Mavic 3 drone. I have an ages old versions of DXO.

So, here is my question. I need a plan for software that covers all the needed bases for landscape, portrait and architectural photography, plus, now drone video.

I'm willing to buy what I need and works, but I don't want to miss something I need, and I also don't want to buy to products that largely overlap.

What is a sane software plan? Sorry for an essentially newbie questions. Unfortunately, I'm essentially a newbie, again.

Thanks in advance for any thought, links, and possible Black Friday insights...

Thanks,

LovePhotography

p.s. Moon photo 3 weeks ago with my 5Ds and EF 600 2.8 with DXO demo deep prime.
