Why the Hate??

So much hate and negativity towards the M system, mainly from R users it seems. Maybe they need to justify their outlay?

For the record, I love the tiny M stuff. Owning both the 100D & 200D DSLR buying into the the M was a no brainer. Currently own all the M lenses (plus a few duplicates) along with the Sigma 1.4 trio. Body wise have the M, M10, M100, M5, M50 (x2), M6ii (all caged). All picked up used, boxed and mintish. I honestly couldn’t be happier. I still own numerous DSLRs in the 3 various sensor sizes.
I’m happy the R is so successful and the R5 does appear to be incredible. So why the hate towards M and it’s users.?

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II will be announced on November 2, 2022

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is coming even sooner than we expected, as Canon is now teasing an announcement on November 2, 2022.
We also want to add that we have been told that there are some ‘selling points’ about the Canon EOS R6 Mark II that haven’t been reported yet and make the new camera a ‘beast’. We don’t mind surprises on announcement day, but those sorts of specs will likely leak out over the next day or two.

Dual Pixel RAW / RAW burst
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
In-body stabilization

We have already seen the USD pricing for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM and the Canon Speedlite EL-5.  The pricing has been pretty well received in the US market, and now we have the UK pricing.

AF performance on M bodies compared to M3?

I recently upgraded from an EOS M3 to the R5, mainly because of the EVF and because the M3 AF was just too frustrating, super slow and then just focusing on the background even with the center point. I got some great pictures but also missed lots of shots.

The R5 is awesome, but now I have a bunch of very used EF-M lenses with little resale value sitting around, and I'm thinking of getting a used M body. Doesn't have to have EVF, but faster AF than M3 is a must.

The M6 II is still rather expensive used, so I'm wondering where the sweet spot for older bodies is. How do the AF systems on the other M bodies compare to the M3?

What are the odds of an R8 at this point?

It seemed like as soon as a rumor cracked about an R replacement/suspected R8, the R6mkII surfaced and stole the show. The R6mkII really seems to firm up that camera's place in the R series lineup. Now that it has been released, I am curious to know what the expectations are on the R replacement/R8 rumor. Anyone want to make any bets or prognosticate? I for one am very curious, as the R with some improvements occupies a space I would be interested in moving into, with the blend of MP and features. And I tipped my hand a little bit here, but would sum it up this way: The R6mkII really does a good job of differentiating itself from the other models in the lineup. An upgraded R makes a lot of sense right now, but I think the specs from the rumor might be a bit ambitious. However, I wouldn't mind IBIS at that price point if I could get it.

Dilemma - Will R6 Mark II be available in UK early December?

We go to the Galapagos on 5th December and I have a dilemma. I had made the decision to get the R5 but with the announcement of the R6 Mark II I have had a change in mind and would prefer the R6 Mark II if available.

Release is end of November in the U.K. From previous experience will I likely get hold of the R6 Mark II by early December?

Am I correct in assuming that the new autofocus features on the R6 Mark II will be on the R5 (firmware upgrades)? Only hesitation of getting the R5 is whether a Mark II will be released soon but is inevitable…

Lunar Eclipse, which is the slowest shutter speed you can use to keep the moon sharp?

There is a Lunar Eclipse happening in some areas soon. https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2022-november-8

I've been looking at calculators to work out the slowest shutter speed for my Canon 200mm F2.8L, 1/2 sec shutter speed is what it recommends for my 90D. When I select a Full Frame sensor and less Megapixels it recommends a slower shutter speed of 1 second. This will be on a tripod with no tracker.

I don't understand why APS-C and Full Frame and the amount of Megapixels would make any difference to the slowest shutter speed I can use while keeping the moon sharp if using the same 200mm lens.

For those shooting the eclipse, which is the slowest shutter speed your going to use?

Continued updates for Canon R6?

Greetings,

I'm new to the CR forum and would appreciate any info from experienced users. I have a R6 and want to know Canon's history of supporting legacy products in terms of software/firmware updates.

Does Canon tend to provide SW/FW updates to discontinued cameras?

I have a Leica Q and as soon as the Q2 came out all SW/FW updates for the original Q ceased.

Thanks

Canon R1000??

You know what would sell? A rear lens cap that is a rudimentary camera. 3MP would produce results good enough for nearly all web publishing. No card or removable battery, instead internal storage for 1000 photos. A USB slot for downloading and recharging. maybe a 60,000 pixel, 200x300 LCD the size of a stamp. Aim for a price of $50-100 or less.

The 20mm film-to-flange spec of the RF mount would set the minimum thickness, but still.

Another announcement cycle is out of the way, so what’s next from Canon for the EOS R system?

With the announcement of the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM out of the way, we can look forward to what Canon has planned next for the EOS R lineup.
EOS R System
Canon EOS R100
The Canon EOS R100 seems to be the camera that is most likely to be announced next from Canon. It will take on the form factor of the EOS M lineup and sport an RF mount. If Canon is indeed moving on from EOS M, they will need to replace the form factor. The Canon EOS R10 doesn’t fill the void of a small ILC...
