All the preoders will not go to those that ordered in the first five minutes. It simply just isn't gonna go that way. In reality some will go to day 1 sales, day 2 sales, etc. Not actually a theoretically first come first serve basis. Factually people who ordered later have been receiving their devices long before those that ordered in the first 10 seconds or first half hour.

I have a Japanese translator in our office, I asked her and she gave me this before I showed her what it translated too, she laughed as well at the one by one, that is not correct,.

It really no time to produce more cameras and lens.
I checked Yodobashi. 50mm f1.8 is still sold out.
I think over 50% canon user would buy 200-800mm. It seems a-must buy lens.

I would hope for first come first serve - I know I saw a hold on the full value of the camera when I ordered, so they're definitely making sure I'm going to pay

Who is buying them all? Just days ago here there were threads full of posts about how these cameras were too little, too late, already obsoleted by competitors's offerings from last year.

Quite curious. Maybe canon only made 5 of each so they could make such a declaration of short supply and hide how terrible the situation really is.

There's a clear disconnect between forum-dwelling 'experts' and people who actually buy cameras. If the forum-dwellers were right, Canon would have abandoned their camera lines years ago, instead of continuing to dominate the market.

I suppose that was just wishful thinking of those forum-dwellers, whatever intention it came from.

Surely the random YouTuber, who has no intention of buying a pro body nor has the knowledge about such bodies, knows that Canon is doomed

However, the numbers tell a different story. I mean, would I have liked a bigger resolution in the R1? Hell yes, but I wouldn't have bought it anyway for 7.5k€. Other than the resolution, are there any bad things about it? And don't talk about a global shutter with all of its downsides.

Most pro sports photographers seems pretty happy with the upgrades from the R3, but Johnny Appleseed who shoots his family vacation once a year knows better for sure.

The professionals using the R3 and R1 are under intense pressure to get the shot. Consider the AP photographer who got the Trump assassination photograph. It will mostly be seen on low resolution computer monitors and televisions so 24MP is enough. I'm more interested in the R5-2 but I already own an R6-2 and R7 so I'm set.

Glad I put my pre-order in back in January with my local store. Despite the YouTubers poo-pooing it, I've never been more excited for a camera.

I pre-ordered the Canon R5 Mark ii, cooling grip and a few other things from Midwest Photo. I ended up contacting them and B&H about the new cooling grip because there was misinformation in the description. It basically stated that there were other controls in the description, like a shutter button, which you would expect to be on a vertical grip...and there are no other controls, it's just a fan and ethernet. So I changed my order to the grip that is $100 for that actually has controls.

If you pre-ordered the cooling grip, expecting it to have controls (like I did) , you may wish to change your order to one of the other grips, unless video is your main interest. Both Midwest and B&H said they made corrections to the listing. Hope this helps!

Thanks for noticing the error about the controls. The cooling grip is just a fan, ethernet and 2 batteries. We will correct the reference to the controls on our website.

The purpose of the cooling grip is for video, thus no vertical shutter button. It is meant to keep the camera from overheating as fast in video modes.

8K 60fps raw goes from 18 minutes without the grip to 21 minutes with the grip (yeah, not much improvement there but that is the top end for video).

8k30P goes from 26 to 106 so there is where you see the big difference.

4k 120p goes from 22 to 26 minutes with the fan (again, not much difference)

4k60 is 45 minutes camera alone to no time restrictions when using the fan.

This is referring to overheating times, not battery power time. As the grip and camera are put into real word use later, we will have more data about battery life range.

Indeed that's the way it works with pre-ordering. The ones who pre-ordered and paid the full price will be the first the receive the camera.

Maybe many people order inferior, obsolete, globalshutterless, low MP, only incrementally "improved" cameras, because they cannot afford the marvelous revolutionary Sonys. Must be a new painful form of masochism.

I don't think the wait lists for the R52 will be very long. On paper the camera looks overpriced in this market unless Canon has been able to do something really special with AF performance that sets it apart from Nikon and Sony.
