Are you using Subject Only autofocus tracking on the R1?
If not, I would try that.

At this point I’ve tried just about every configuration. I have greatly reduced the AF issues, but I still do not have the level of confidence in it that I do in the A9III’s.

Just had a friend price check the R1 in Yodobashi cameras in Kyoto. About 800 euro cheaper than France BUT
….. it could take 4 months to get one !
