Drowning in new R5 Mark II config

The only long TF lens I have is the 100-500 and like it. I really want to get the 100-300 lens but just cannot bring myself to pony up 10k when I do not make enough money from photography to justify it. If I get on the local Nascar circuit or something like that I might grab one.

I signed up for CPS for the first time in forever when I bought the R5 Mark II. 'Free' CPS loaners may have all kinds of strings attached, but it's super fun just to joyride with some luxury gear over a weekend.

Like that time I loved the light so much that I pushed my CPS loaner EF 200 f/2L IS USM's minimum focus distance to use it for some indoors portraiture. (Talk about needing to move your feet!)

Just curious, as my RC-6 infrared is now off the table: what is everyone's strategy with remotes?

Leave Bluetooth on all the time in case you need it? Or go through the menus and turn it on when needed?
Personally, I have bluetooth on all the time, mostly to have Camera Connect do the geotagging. It hasn’t made a large enough impact on battery drain for me to care about it.

The phone based bluetooth remote one of the best features (that’s a really low bar) of the app.

Could a custom shooting mode turn on bluetooth, or is that not under the span of a mode's control?
Good question, I don't know (and I'm on a plane with the R8 in the overhead, the R1 is at home). So I guess give it a try and see... Long ago, the Canon manuals had a table of which settings were stored in the C# settings, but not for several years.

Can you use the wireless remote while Camera Connect is connected on the R5 Mk II?

Because you couldn't on the R5 Mk I, only either or. That made it very inconvenient to use the Bluetooth remote, and is why I only ever used the IR one. Would be cool if they fixed that.

I don’t have the BR-E1, but I think I read in the manual that it’s the same situation: only one connection allowed, so either the remote or the phone.

It's very dated of me, but that's why I liked the IR remotes. No fuss, no pairing, no ongoing battery hit from a feature being left on, etc.

I thought a fun exercise with the new body would be to shoot my corporate portrait (just for my outlook profile). But now I have the choice of using the cable release RS 80-N3 with an awkward reach, buying a bluetooth remote or having to pair my phone.

One of those methods will work and I'll get the shot I need. But IR (for all its headaches) would have been so much simpler for this.

I liked the IR remote, too...mostly for the very small size that fit completely in my hand. The BR-E1 works well and is pretty easy to conceal if I'm in the shot. My phone, not so much...so I'll stick with the slightly larger remote.

An advantage of the BR-E1 remote is that the remote does not need to be in front of the camera like the IR remote. You can use the BR-E1 to trigger the camera from the side or from behind the camera. On paper the RC-6 and BR-E1 have the same range (5 meter/ 16 ft), but my RC-6 struggled above 2 meters.
