Bees, almost bees, wasp, flies...

Bembix rostrata (didn't find an English name) is a species of sand wasps that a friend of mine and I were able to detect for the first time in our district.
Its German name "Kreiselwespe" refers to the gyrating (=kreiseln) movement of its front legs when digging.
I tried to make a Video of it. Didn't work with my video abilities, the legs are moving too fast.

You're brave to get so close or I'm a coward...
Don't get too close to their nests, don't blow on it, don't beat after it. And move slowly.
It takes some self-control. Especially with hornets. Even if I now consider hornets to be the most good-natured ones ;)

And... don't be allergic to their poison!

And know their behaviour...

European paper wasp (polistes dominula) are particularly "chilled" wasps.
They get up relatively late, need a lot of warmth first and only get going after a while. Perhaps a coffee would help.
My neighbour has a wrecked car on his property. The front left fender was a suitable shelter for a colony.
I took photos in the morning at MFD of the RF 100-500 @1,2m.
I wouldn't have taken those pictures at midday or at a nest of common wasps (vespula vulgaris).

It's a shame to post images with this quality here but I'm acting according to the saying "the best camera is the one in your hands" - in this case my phone :poop:!
What impressed me - to take few (bad!) shots was the fact that the cockroach by itself was still but when dragged by the wasp (and the wasp was taking time to time walks alone like researching the habitat around) it actually was walking, like helping the wasp!!!
On other hand I learned something after researching the behavior of the wasp/cockroach and found it amazing - worth of posting (well, at least from my point of view)!

I suppose, some would be happy to be able to take such shots with their system camera.
If I may use your own words, ISv: "The equipment that matters, is you"!!!

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting!
And we humans claim to have invented neuroanatomy... ;)

It's one of those things where it is the phone's image quality or nothing, because the wasp and cockroach don't stay there all the time.

I never imagined saying this but the fourth wasp from the bottom looks very cute coming out from the space between the car parts.

Very nice shot, Maximilian. The wasp is in sharp focus, with lots of detail, especially the eyes.
