BIRD IN FLIGHT ONLY -- share your BIF photos here

Few more from Saturday. I actually spent there ~3h on the cliff and took ~1,800 photos. I promise these to be the last to post from that day :)!
First two are from different bursts: courtship "dance". First the bird is taking up and flying backwards (in this case very fast because of the strong wind) and later diving also fast. Note the tail - it's a part of the posture! After that a bird approaching it's nest (I'm sure there was a nest just few meters below me), the last photo from ~13 meters and 100% crop! In generally I was looking for the other two species - The Red-billed and the White-tailed but didn't see any of them. The other target was the big black silhouette of the Great Frigate bird! Instead I got a chopper !

Thank you for explaining the courtship "dance". Very nice shots.

Lovely shots! Where was this? I'm planning a trip to Maui (Hosmer Grove) and the big island (hoping to catch Kilauea erupting).

These are from Oahu between the two lookouts East of Hanauma bay. Sure spot if you are there in the right season at the right time of the day. Hosmer Grove is great for Hawaiian endemics (what I value more than the Tropic Birds) but you should go there in the right season if you want to see more of them.

When would you recommend for endemics? Any other locations on Maui or Hawaii?

For Hosmer groove, all the winter and even now (about the end of the season) when Mamane is still blooming. Later on birds will go to feed on Sandalwood or Ohia flowers but the Sandalwood is very scarce and birds are scattered on much bigger habitat. On Big Island there are many spots, Saddle Road at higher elevation should be relatively good. Best thing is to check on Maui and Big Island eBird sites and see where and what others have seen in the last days.

Red-backed shrike
Ring-necked pheasant

R10 RF800/11

The R10 is a recent acquisition from a very cheap used bundle with two lenses that I plan to resell.
I tried out pre-shooting and managed to get the shrike right as it took off. The fact that the camera goes into auto-ISO was annoying,
but I found increasing auto range base ISO seems to force the camera into higher shutter speeds.

I was surprised by how well Lightroom noise reduction was able to rescue the heavy crop on the pheasant pictures, which was borderline unusable before NR.
