At least some of the big butterflies were still there this summer.
Here's a silver-washed fritillary (argynnis paphia), looks like a female.

If I am right, this is a male common blue (polyommatus icarus).
There are so many lycaenidae and so many similar patterns... *sigh*
Looking at the wing hem being so long and bright, this one is quite young.
When they get older, the hem gets worn out and shorter.

Some kind of wood wasp or ichneumon wasp.
If I had to make a guess, I'd say xeris spectrum, but I wouldn't bet a cent on that.

cicada; 5D3 100-400 II @ 400...a bit of googling--does the entire world get to hear the wonderful 
sound of cicadas each summer...like we do in the midwest USA?
