Buying my first Mirrorless

Hi, Good evening everyone,

I want your advice; I am considering buying my first mirrorless camera, currently using a 5D Mark II. I do portraits, weddings, dance, scene photography.

I am considering the R6 Mark II for this transition to a new ecosystem; Is it the correct choice, should I wait for the R6 Mark III or the R5?

Do you have an idea of the R6 Mark III specifications?

So I have the 5d mark ii and I upgraded to the r6 mark ii, (and now I have the r5 mark ii as well because I have a problem apparently.)

The upgrade to the r6 mark ii was night and day. The 5dmii was still awesome, but the r6 mark ii the autofocus, shutter speed, and general performance was night and day different from the 5d.

I would say the r6 mark ii is worth it and able to perform well.

(Just adding clarity, due to changing habits of my camera usage, I wanted to get the r5m2 for a bit better cropability, and the improvements in autofocus, while slight, I like the register people priority as an option. I also wanted the precapture with normal raw files. )

To summarize, Get a good deal on the r6 mark ii, it is amazing, it works well, and definitely worth the money!

Hello fellow Madrid person.

The R6 Mark II is a brilliant choice to get into mirrorless. The EOS R6 Mark III will add speed, which it doesn't sound like something you need. The R6 Mark II is also quite affordable at the moment and the R6 Mark III will be more money when it hits. There will not be a resolution bump either. Canon loves their 24mp.

The only thing you may miss is the top LCD, so that's worth considering.

There are some things you may want to pay attention to:

* You may need more spare batteries than with the 5DII. However, the camera can also be sourced/charged with an USB-PD battery pack.

* The camera is smaller than the 5DII, and with a large lens may be inconvenient to handhold without a vertical grip.

* The camera has a much better autofocus than the 5DII. Still, don't expect too much from it right from the start; mastering it will take time. Keep one-shot spot AF assigned to a back button as a backup for the cases where the camera's tracking autofocus doesn't do what you want from it.

The R6 Mark II will already be a huge upgrade from the 5D Mark II. Probably more features than you even need.

It's never good to buy the latest cameras, simply because they will be expensive and the R6III will probably be in the region of $2500. If you wait for Black Friday sale on the Canon page, I bet you can score a refurbished R6II for a whole grand less than that: ~$1500 with full warranty. And rumor is those refurbished cameras are often brand new. Better put your money into lenses, because that's what matters most.
The older R5 is a whopping resolution upgrade which is great for cropping (and basically like always having a 1.5x teleconverter with you), but its AF isn't quite as good as the R6II and it doesn't have some features like 1/16000 shutter, lens breathing correction or pre-shooting buffer.
