Canon adds two new lenses to the short supply list

Entirely expected although I would have assumed that Canon had a good idea about pre-order volumes and would deliver them.
If they can't fill the pre-orders then Canon doesn't understand the market as well as we think they do.

I am surprised by the weak arguments that Sony shooters have had against these two lenses. Maybe Canon did break the internet after all!

How many more lenses need to be released as per the roadmap and rumours??

That's assuming Canon has both the production capacity and the will to postpone introduction to satisfy all the demand in the first batch. I'm not convinced they actually have either of those.

Either a lens is a flop or when it hits the market the peak demand does exceed the long term capacity.
Any production facility these days is being laid out with cost efficiency in mind, so the long term demand is the criteria to focus on.

You will see a lot of those 200-800 out in the field within a year's timeframe.

At this point I have a feeling this is the new strategy for camera companies to make people preorder things. By making you think you won’t get the item that you want for. Long time you “must preorder now or else”
Nikon has been doing the same and the majority of lenses are in stock after 2-3 weeks of launch date. Just saying

The RF 28/2.8 was put on the delayed list just after the announcement, yet Adorama had them in stock and available for purchase even before the official launch date.

The RF 100-300/2.8 launched at the end of May and it’s still hard to get.

For the 28mm, my preorder (minutes after it became available at that store) didn't get allocated to the first batch, but a different store had it in stock after handling their preorders. I was very glad I looked around, I hadn't expected the pre-orders to be so skewed towards the big two camera specialists here in .nl.
