Canon Eos R1 stopped functioning

I tried to change the subject to focus on, change from animals to people,
however, it was blocked. The only thing I could do was to reset to
factory settings.

Is there a possibility to record this non-functioning issue
and to share this with Canon?

Looking forward to any contribution.

Kind regards,
Robert - NL

Is an email explaining it not sufficient? Seems like a major issue. Doesn’t seem like something that requires any type of recorded proof for them to ask you if they can take a look. Have you reproduced it again?

I would think that an e-mail to Canon or the retailer where purchased would be good ideas. Twice when I had to return equipment to Canon for service (due to damage on my part) I went to the local retailer where I purchased it and they look care of the return for me. Moreover, once the repair was finished Canon returned it to the retailer and I could pick it up when convenient.

Gentleman,

Of course I addressed the issue to my dealer and a mail I sent to Canon - NL.
The only reason that I wrote it was if I would be the first and / or the only one.

I have not heard of this happening. I have an R1 and have not experienced anything similar.

Did it re-occur?

My initial reaction with any camera freeze up is pulling the battery out. I had to do this once or twice with the R5 when the shutter mechanism froze. That issue had been reported by others.

It honestly sounds like a firmware glitch. I am not sure of the exact settings you had, so I am glad you reported it back to Canon. I would also check to see if you are running the latest firmware.

But, if you have the latest firmware, there is rumored to be another firmware upgrade coming, so if this is repeating for you after those updates, I would recommend returning your camera, even if it is to have Canon go over it under warranty.

Resetting to factory settings was a good step. You might be able to record the issue using screen capture or an external camera and then submit it to Canon support. They usually appreciate detailed reports, which can help them improve future updates. Hope you find a solution soon!
