Canon has delayed the next EOS R5 Mark II shipments by potentially 6 months.

I got on a "list" for the R5m2 about 3 years ago at our local camera store in Lexington, KY. Because of that (silly as it may seem), I was able to get it. While I could have gotten it with BHPV, I wanted to help my local store stay in business. As I bought it from them, I asked them to show me a whole bunch of Canon lenses (which I tried on my R5) so that I could consider them in my future (well, ... ahem ... from BHPV) and was glad that my R5m2 purchase gave them something for their considerable time showing them to me. At the moment I think I'll keep my R5 so that I have 2 bodies (R5 & R5m2) to hold 2 lenses for the future.

Now I've decided which additional lenses to get. It also means that I will no longer want to hold on to these 3 lenses (which are in perfect working order and cleanliness):
RF 24-70 f2.8L
RF 800 f11
RF 1.4x TC
I'll have to sell them somehow, but if anyone on this site is interested then just let me know.

Honestly, with every lens or camera there is the "preorders were significantly higher than anticipated..."... it is really annoying. If this happens once or twice, I'm fine with. But if it happens EVERY SINGLE time Canon announces something, there is a at least one department that does shitty work... it could be bad market research (for having wrong estimates ALL THE TIME), marketing (for using the same phrases as an excuse over and over again), production planning or acquisition of raw materials.
They base it on what they read on forums. Only expected to sell 5 bodies as everyone else already planned to switch to Sony or Nikon. ;)

Or it is deliberate.

They plan to spin up a production line with X cameras/month, and they know it won’t be enough to satisfy initial demand but are (1) not willing to spend more money to spin up a larger production because demand will taper off, (2) cannot spin up the line earlier to stock up because the design is not ready/final, and most importantly (3) figure they won’t lose too much revenue with long lines because demand for these higher-end gear don’t melt away nearly that fast.

This is probably why you see lower-end cameras and lenses having no stock issues. These items are likely easier to produce and they know that those customers may well go to another brand if Canon doesn’t have what they want in stock (because they are often new to MILCs and no particular attachment to any brand).

I ordered 2 weeks after the initial announcement and was told prior to the initial shipment I was 300 and something in the Q for pre-orders at WEX. I’m assuming that WEX are the UK retailer who CR was referring to getting enough stock for around 25% of preorders in batch 1.

I’ve since spoken to WEX staff in person at my local store last week and again this morning. Only update they were able to provide is next batch due sometime September - they weren’t able to provide further updates beyond that as to when in September, where I now sit in Q, numbers they expect to receive etc.

I just spoke to Wex and they refused to tell me where I am in the queue for my preorder! How did you get that info from them?! Anyhow, I ordered a handful of LP-E6P batteries with the camera, and they're now in stock, and will work with my R5C so I'm collecting them tomorrow. Some small consolation!

I ordered mine from Wex 61 mins (precisely!) after the sale launched, I didn’t make the first shipment either. they didn’t reveal to me on enquiry anything about the queue, how many they received etc like they have informed yourself, I was just told that one wasn’t allocated to me - am assuming I didn’t make the 25% then!

I understand them not wanting to get peoples hopes up about when they might have stock. I think they are at the mercy of external factors. so am trying to be patient despite my hankering for the upgrade from my old 1dx mk 2! :)

Ah, you're ahead of me then! I ordered mine the moment once could place orders... and then two hours later my credit card company informed me there was suspicious activity on my account and they'd declined the transaction, so I had to start again..
That’s frustrating! As an aside, I spoke to canon directly. It was a little confusing but they said they won’t be shipping direct orders made directly with their website until October, but that UK and other countries retailer supply chain was different and got units at different times. I realise this info moves us no further forward :) I guess the units will arrive when they arrive. Until then, the nicotine patch of watching YouTube videos will have to do ;-)

Believe it or not, a good vodka can be worth a detour.I didn't believe it myself, until a gift from Poland arrived... Of course, it can never compete with a good single -malt, cognac etc...
Reminds me. The first time I went to Moscow I started playing chess and lost. Then they plied me with vodka and chillis. I then smashed them.
