Canon R5 Memory Card Door Creaking

Hey everyone,

Hoping someone can help. Ive just picked up a Canon R5 and the memory card door is creaking and driving me insane as everytime I pick it up it makes the noise you can feel the door move slightly.

Its exactly as in the video below.

I was going to say “I bet that didn’t happen on your 5DIV”, but then thought that would be rather unhelpful.
Seriously though, Canon have got this down to a fine art: on my 5D (I) the plain plastic card door creaked. On my 5DII the plain plastic card door didn’t creak. On my 5DS the rubber grip finished card door doesn’t creak.
I’d put a strong bet on the R5iii, when comes, will have a rubber grip covered card door. These are clever little tweaks that Canon does to encourage us to upgrade, even if the actual camera performance alone doesn’t warrant it. Hats off to them; it works with me !

Appreciate the comments but there is no-one on the Canon forum that has had this issue before? Bump to hope someone has had some experience.

Mine does not make any noise nor does it move. I would bet one of 2 things. 1. the door is not seated properly in its hinge, you could pop it off and try re-seating it. 2. the gasket is either missing or somehow installed incorrectly.

If I spent $4000 on a camera and something seems to be not right, I would return/exchange it. Yes, that means a wait, but my guess is that you have another camera. Yes, a pain in the butt.

It's a used camera at less than half that amount, hence the question. It does have a 6 month warranty but the shop I bought it from is 200 miles away. As it's a simple issue and im pretty handy id rather see peoples experiences and possible fixes than be without the camera for 2 weeks or possibly have to return and find another.

On YouTube, below the video that you linked to, there’s a video of someone (photo beast ?) replacing the door with a new one. If you are handy with tiny tools this might be an option.

Apologies, I was not thinking clearly last night, I got this confused with the battery door. You would probably have to disassemble the camera a bit to do so.

I contacted the shop and they have offered a refund or a new door. As its only got 4% shutter use and £1700 I think il get the service. Will be hard to find another at that price with them going for £2400+ used currently with this R5II shortage.

Lots of people had the same idea jumping on a lightly used unit and now there aren't a lot for sale.

Hey. Ye im having the same issue. Door closes fine, but creaks when I push the bottom of it with my thumb.
