Digital Photo Professional 4 getting slower while working?

I use Digital Photo Professional 4 (Version 4.17.20.0) for my Canon R files, it starts slow yet acceptable, but when working it gets slower and slower and after 30 minutes it's impossible to work anymore.

I can't find a reason "slowness" increases over time.

Any ideia how to get it faster or at least it doesn't increase slow after some time working?

Thanks!

Is it with DPP4 or with other things as well?

I had something similar happen this month during vacation and it turned out that my external SSD was too hot and started throttling performance. But it felt like Lightroom became slower and slower the longer I used it.

Does other software use the external ssd as well? If so, it’s a DPP4 issue. Can you have a look at where DPP4 stores its cache files? Those can be huge and take up a lot of space. If space is tight, DPP4 might be doing something stupid that slows it down.
