Heavy battery drain on R5 Mk II

Good morning!
I need some help from forum-experts on the R5 MK II out there.
I´ve seen, that my R5 MK II ran out of battery after two hours of shooting birds (600 pics taken). Recharched the batteries and went out in the morning, shooting for about 20 minutes, taking 40+ shots. My batteries were drained to 72 & 84 % (installed fully chared and registered) after this time.
The batteries are new, charched on original Canon charger.
WLAN, bluetooth are off (flight mode is activated, IS is off.
Inside some noise is detected, (sounds alike IS is working on my R5) - but IS is switched off on the 100mm Rf macro lens.
What can I do to stop this heavy drain??? On my R5, the drain is just 4% on both batteries.
Just dissatisfying. Don´t want to take 10 expensive batteries on a one day photo-session.

Thank you

Did you update the firmware to 1.01? Maybe check "Preview AF" and make sure it is set to disabled. Are you using the new BG-R20 grip or the old version?

Thank you for your reply.
I´m using the new grip. Firmware was updated.
I returned the body to the dealer on Friday, when I was told, it has to be repaired ans sent to Canon Japan. Online purchases can be returned within two weeks - Friday was the last day to do this.
It seems the Mainboard has some problems. It appeared too that some pictures were not stored correct and the fan inside (? do not know it here is one - or something elese that makes an buzzin sound) did not stop working.

That is a bad way to start with a new camera. I hope that you do not have to wait long before you get a new body. There is no fan inside. Probably the IBIS unit that caused the noise.

I have truly awful battery life with the R5II as well, so you’re not alone. When things settle down, I plan to test my two R5II bodies against my R6II(w/ LP-E6NH and then with -E6P) and R3. But I know that my R6II doesn’t chew through batteries like this. My R5II also gets incredibly hot…I’ve been too busy to actually set aside time and test this, I just anecdotally that something seems off.

Keep in mind that the LP-E6P is designed to be able to discharged twice as fast as the LP-E6NH, so a much worse battery life is expected.

Pre-capture is the thing that impacts battery life on mine the most, on a busy outing it drains a battery fully in about 2 hours.
