Ready for the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z?

Not ideal, but might actually be a decent stopgap. Gaffers tape doesn't leave residue like electrical tape, does it? I may also consider finding a short socket screw or shoulder bolt for the screw holes.
It leaves no residue if you remove it time, which can be weeks to months or even years, depending on the exposure to UV and heat.

Keep an eye on the tape if you’re planning to do midday shoots in Death Valley for a month :)

Hi,
I was looking for some user experience with the 70-200 f2.8 Z lens for wildlife or bird photography. I carry my 100-500 along on my travels to photograph birds in the parks where my main lens RF400 f2.8 with 1.4x TC is very conspicuous. Just last week, a local birder warned me about it while I was photographing the gorgeous Inca Terns in Miraflores, Lima, Peru. In fact my 400+1.4 was too close!

So, I am tempted to trade-in my 100-500 for the new 70-200 and use my 1.4x TC when needed. I think this setup will not be as conspicuous as my big lens. With my current TC, it will be almost a 100-300 f4.

Appreciate any thoughts and/or experiences?

I have tried the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z + EXTENDER RF2x combined with R5 and R5II.

I was quite pleased with results. Here is one example of wiildlide photos. (this was taken with R5).

Excellent shot! Love the details. I think I will pitch for this lens soon. I was on a fishing boat shooting pelagic birds off the island of Pucusana in Peru today and I realized that I wasn't going full 500 end on my 100-500 as it is difficult to keep the subject in the frame in a choppy boat. And in an overcast weather like the one we had today, I would be better off with a faster lens. I already have the 1.4x TC on my 400mm lens which I could switch to the 70-200 when needed and still get f4.
