Better "Big Bird" than the Small One: I think I posted once a Night Heron killing House SparrowThanks. He thought I was Big Bird![]()
I was given a rather expensive Maven filter and it ruined the IQ of my RF 200-800. So, I would strongly advise against the use of these filters on the 800mm lenses without careful testing first. I have never had any problems with Marumi or B&W filters on my RF 100-500, EF 100-400mm or other lenses.Common kestrel.

I had been struggling with my 800 the last couple of days, very poor image quality and poor detail.
Taking off the much too cheap UV filter that I had on it made all the difference in the world!
This one was shot without the filter while I was trying to photograph boxing hares (no keepers there as of yet).

I have a B&W UV filter for the RF 200-800mm. The quality is good. I use it when it is likely that the lens will get dirty, e.g. when photographing birds on the beach.I was given a rather expensive Maven filter and it ruined the IQ of my RF 200-800. I have B+W filters on most of my lenses (not on small/cheap ones like the EF-M 22/2 and RF 28/2.8). I've tested several of them, including most recently the big, thick 112mm filter for the RF 100-300/2.8. I see no effect on sharpness. Flare with strong backlighting is increased with a filter, and that's especially noticeable in lenses already prone to flare (e.g., the EF 70-200/2.8 II...the main difference with the MkIII was improved coatings to reduce flare).I have a B&W UV filter for the RF 200-800mm. That's a new one for a Pom like me! Very nice.
I don't think it has been posted here before (despite of the pretty big areal where it exist). Nice shot!
