Show your Bird Portraits

In just a few minutes this evening, I took these small birds in my back garden. All were between 10-14m and taken at 800mm with the R5. Dunnock, female Greenfinch, Longtailed Tit, Eurasian Robin and male Greenfinch. I also saw a Jay, and heard Blue Tits, Great Tits, Wren, Chiffchaff, Bullfinch, Nuthatch, Blackcap 309A5603-DxO_Dunnock.jpg309A5611-DxO_Female_Greenfinch.jpg309A5621-DxO_-ls-s_longtailed_Tit.jpeg309A5645-DxO_Robin.jpg309A5657-DxO_Male_Greenfinch.jpgand Song Thrush.

Brown Thrasher

M6MkII mated to adapted 100-400II + 1.4XIII (906mm effective focal length)

=====

...only a rather mediocre image first--a bug and a seed are in place...

=====

...and last, I had never given much thought to how a pair of wings on a bird are unfurled:

...sort of looks a bit like a galaxy swirl?! In any event, for this particular Brown Thrasher, the left wing spreads prior to its right wing counterpart.

The right wing--a bit slow. ;)

[EDIT: ...more like a propeller?]

Family Canada goose are there now, too... They've got 5 goslings.
200D, 100-400L II, oh, I start to really hate that ol' 9 digit diamond AF, The lower AF point was always directly on the centre gosling. Meh!

More small birds this afternoon. The 200-800mm seems at its best at 800m at longer distances, and it's optimised for there. A male Yellowhammer in the subdued light I like for this type of colour variation. Also, I got a rare shot for me of a common Whitethroat.

A Wood Duck at the river last week. The local ones rarely allow me to get close enough for any detail.

He was joined by a rather coy Mallard...

...who then became talkative.
