Thanks! Something new to learn in English: "If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then the person who is observing gets to decide what is beautiful". The idea exist for sure in every language but now I know how to say it in English !
And now imagine all that "beauty contests" - it's a good business and what more?! With the photo contests it's better but still... sometimes...

And some complain they don't learn anything from CR! CR is a source for British English, US English and Broken English (and even some with a sense of humo(u)r).

Here's Lookin' At You

Some three decades ago, my wife had a zumi crabapple tree planted in our front yard. It was about seven feet tall. It is now about thirty feet tall...and that tree has served as the 'studio' for half or so of the bird pix I post here. Indeed, my first-ever decent bird pic (Northern Mockingbird in that very tree) was acquired with a Rebel XT, a Canon 75-300 zoom at ISO1600.

Tomorrow the tree comes down; a large and central portion of the tree has died.

Below is the last pic of a bird in this tree--another Northern Mockingbird.

I'm still restrained at home by the weather. This photo is from last Monday: Now I'm looking at that piece of blue sky in the background with nostalgia despite it was there for very short time.

And from today: I decided the first photo is not reflecting the situation good enough (I went out when the rain slowed down). Took another shot 10 min. later - much better ! No parakeets today - I believe they went to dryer place (no idea where it should be - the rain is all around).
Edited: all phones, TVs are delivering emergency signals - flash flood! I'm fine on higher ground but some guys would not be that fortunate...

Yesterday was a rainy day. Got a lot of work done, but I did see a Ruby Throated Hummingbird perched on a butterfly bush so I set up to take a few photos and other birds as they came by the feeder for a bit.



All with R5 and 200-800 w and w/o 1.4xTC

Seen hardly any birds recently. Sat down this afternoon with a glass of wine in my garden and watched my feeders. Within minutes, the birds came to visit me. The prize was a Great Spotted Woodpecker. A Jackdaw nesting in my neighbour's chimney visited. Blue and Great Tits kept flitting in. A Magpie scavenged dropped seeds. A ground feeding Dunnock managed well, but Robins find it difficult to perch.

The proof is in the pudding, AlanF...great images (and I wonder about the origin of that expression)...

But based on my own rather limited experience in England, (two trips to England, total of about fifteen days and nights...with about half of those days in late December), I wonder about your location when describing these images. England!? Your own garden!?

In my entire time in England, I don't think we saw the sun for more than 15 minutes.

These are wonderful...and serve as excellent examples (for me, at least) of the R5/200-800/1.4 capabilities.

I will be pre-ordering the R5II. And getting my name on a 200-800 list.
