I also tried hitting the flame of a candle but rain out of patience before I got it perfect. That is a lot of work becasue wick gets wet and trying to dry it and light it without moving it ain't easyWOW! Well done, Noreaster.
I have the Cognisys StopShot Studio (3 valve water drop) setup. I was developing my own system with an Arduino for multiple droppers, but this came out during my development and was easier than building my own thereafter.I’ve been considering the Cognysis system. More expensive, but looks more capable (triggering several flashes) and expandable (multiple drops). The MIOPS setup looks like a nice system for a simple setup, though, and priced very well.
Do you have a brand paint? Or maybe I can buy it on Amazon? how big a drop of paint is it before you hit it?I have the Cognisys StopShot Studio (3 valve water drop) setup. Here are a few "crowns" I shot with the Congnisys setup - high-flow acrylic paint on base and pouring cream in dropper (I find this better than milk). I used 3 flashes (directly above for top fill, drop level left and right for front lighting) and a gloss black acrylic base. Very messy and the camera picks up every micro droplet missed in cleaning up the previous shot. Alignment for this type of shot can be frustrating too!
(5DsR, EF 100L Macro, ISO 100, f/22, 1 sec, flashes 1/16 power?)

Thanks so much for thisHi @Noreaster,
The brand I use is local here in Australia (Global Colours). I have seen them on Amazon Australia, and not sure about your location, but did a quick search and found a similar product under the brand "Golden". Realistically, any "high flow acrylic" paint from an art shop should be fine. I bought a series of 50mL (about 2 oz) bottles in close to primary colours so I could mix where I wanted. I use dense opaque colour, not transparent.
The drop of paint is about 6-9mm in diameter (roughly 1/4-1/3 inch), providing a big enough target and trying not to waste paint and have a big clean-up after each shot.
Good luck, and let us know how you go!
