We reported back in mid January that new firmware was going to be announced ahead of CP+, which is currently running for the both the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II

My R5 II came back from Canon Service, I complained about it gobbling battery juice at high speed. Fully loaded battery, despite extreme energy economy settings and use: 200 shots maximum at approximately + 8° celsius. Under identical conditions, the EOS R battery shows more than 75% left.
Canon's answer: Everything's ok...
If the coming firmware doesn't help, I will sell the R5 II and possibly replace it with an R5.
It’s frustrating to release a product that should be held in high esteem which such a glaring problem, for then to be told there is nothing wrong with it. I haven’t seen any such battery issues with my R1 thankfully - but if I did I would be highly irritated. Lets face it, if the above poster is a common scenario and they cannot obtain more than 200 shots with a full battery under normal shooting conditions - then what good is that with a camera like the the r5ii?It feels like a major problem, and maybe the fix could be the worst case scenario (recalls). Sometimes those sorts of things take a long time isolate. It's really frustrating a lot of shooters.
R5C has built-in fan. R5II does not.The Canon R5C offers 4K60p downsampled from 8K so I don't understand why Canon limits 4KHQ to 30fps in the R5 Mark II.
Hopefully this new Firmware update fixes this! Please Canon! At least match the capabilities of the older R5C in the R5 Mark II
Right! And it's no fun having to think all the time to take a spare battery even for a short walk.Wow. That seems odd.
Gonna bookmark that to get watch when I get chance.Ordinary Filmaker posted a chat that I and Josh Holko had a couple of nights ago. Unfortunately it's two hours long, but I touch on Canon's QC and I didn't hold back. A 5 series should be held to the same standard as a 1 series.
I have no idea what chapter it was.

I had no idea we went that long... But it was actually about 4 hours of my time! A good time though.. we laugh a ton and we're selling nothing.
I always buy grey market to be honest, as frowned upon as that may be.Right! And it's no fun having to think all the time to take a spare battery even for a short walk.
I had a similar issue with a Leica M. After 2 fruitless visits to their so-called Customer Care, I addressed Leica's CEO. And my problem found a very quick solution. Unfortunately Canon's CEO's office is in Japan.
How can Canon find my experience "normal"? What's the use of warranty? Such a behavior strengthens me in my decision to buy all my future Canon products from grey market. Service can't be worse...
No, I won't jump ship!![]()
And there are reasons why it doesn’t matter. There are reasons more megapixels can be useful and needed that apparently goes beyond your needs.
All my last lenses were grey market items. On the 100-500 alone, I saved at least $900 on the French/German price...I always buy grey market to be honest, as frowned upon as that may be.
I find the customer service much better and I find it easier to get a warranty replacement or exchange - not to mention the massive price reduction due to tax savings. I suppose when the push comes to the shove I might be out in the cold with a black listed serial number or something, but I can’t say I have ever come across an issue making it a problem or even apparent in well over 20 years.
Not sure why you’re quoting me. I don’t think megapixels matter at all. As far as I can tell, you actually agree with me. Seems strange to have a go!You missed the point completely..

Could you please tell me which 3rd. party batteries you'd recommend?I had an issue with my R5 Mark ii batteries. The Canon batteries were draining incredibly quickly, without any use when in the BG-R20EP grip. I can't remember the exact amount but I'd say after being charged, they went down 10-15% over a day or two, without any use and without any battery draining settings on and obviously the camera off.
I ended up sending them back to Midwest Photo (who I found to be great to deal with, so thanks again to whichever CR admin put me in touch with them when the R5 Mark ii came out!) to test. They tested a few various ways and found....no issues with the battery. When I tested prior to sending them the batteries, it happened at least 2-3 times which is what prompted me to send them (those batteries aren't cheap!).
So when I got them back, of course I tested them again and low and behold...there was a slight drainage of maybe 2-4% over a couple of days, which I guess isn't horrible. I'm not sure why they were draining so bad prior to sending them and so little when getting them back. I'm clueless on that. I did search on the web for similar issues and did find a few but not many.
I ended up getting third party (which yes, I know you're not supposed to use) to test out. The third party batteries held charge in or out of the camera, unlike the Canon batteries, for a FRACTION of the cost. All of the features on the camera still worked with no issue. Zero issues.
It's a bit upsetting when you spend around $5k and a setup and there's such silly issues as a battery draining without even being used. The only thing I can think of is maybe because the batteries were brand new, they had to be used and charged up a few times before keeping the charge. I know that sounds ridiculous and maybe it is; I just feel like that's something I may have heard a looong time ago.
I definitely don't blame Midwest Photo, I only have good things to say about them. They are extremely responsive and helpful. I don't know if they are considered one of the BIG dealers but if they are, they sure don't feel like it - and I mean that in a good way. They come off as people that want to not only earn your business but ensure you're satisfied afterwards by being helpful, even if your issue is odd, like mine was. I'm only speaking about Midwest Photo because a few of the posts earlier seemed to have a disdain for some of the big companies.
P.S - I don't work for them. Lol. I just believe in "word of mouth" when a company is deserving. Which is rare these days. At least rare that it's good, unfortunately.

As you may have read my post, I had similar discharging issues.
PS: Mine went through several cycles without any improvement.![]()
