What's with all the comparison articles about old / discontinued cameras?

R6 (original) vs R5 (original)? G7X Mark III vs the RX100 VII (G7X Mark III technically not discontinued yet but supposed to be going in the first half of 2025)? and then we have "5 Best Canon Mirrorless Cameras of 2025 – Say Cheese in Style!"? Is this the new site owners trying to drive traffic by dropping filler articles with SEO-friendly titles to boost search traffic?

Hope this isn't a sign of things to come after the site sale, it would be bad if this place turned into Petapixel...

Yes, the whole point of all of this is a return on investment. No, the site won't become PetaPixel. I can't stand that site.

However, Canon Rumors needs traffic from regular consumers of cameras. They don't buy r52s and R1s. For better or worse. It will make the site better in the end. As I mentioned, it will take some time to sort it all out and segment the site properly.

A new site layout is coming and those types of articles will have their own section and the main blogroll will remain what you're used to.

There are other more technical things planned, as well as some Cinema EOS/Video coverage. Which I am not qualified to do at all.

There are no forum threads for those articles.

Oh no this is so bad...if it will continue like this - are there any other options, websites or communities like CR?

I don't understand the problem, there are plenty of articles that are the normal CR content, especially with the launches this week.

The site has to branch out, and with the new site design, it will make more sense.

All written by "Heidi Loren" who I can find no evidence of online. Unclear if a real person, new owner or a name they put on an article writing AI.

She's a real person and there's no AI. She has been hired by the powers that be. Not sure how you couldn't find her. She's #2 on a Google search.

Relieved. ;)

To be fair they're not buying the original R6 either though, are they? At least not new / where I am (UK). Also not too sure how realistic it is to attract "regular" consumers: this has always struck me as an enthusiast-focussed site vs. e.g. DPReview, which to me is one of this site's strengths.

It does look better with the more segmented look today.

Lots of EOS R6 cameras are still sold. They still show up refurbished, they are big sellers with used retailers. I roll with an R6 for Scuba, and I seeked it out for the purpose.

There are lots of people that are buying their first ILC and for what you can get an R6 for? It's still in the conversation. I mean, people are dropping $1000 on 8 year old PowerShots!

Judging by the metrics of the recent posts, growth with "regular" customers is already working. It's where the traffic and interest comes from that has changed in the last few years. Social media isn't really the driving force for web sites, which is great.

Enthusiasts and casuals can co-exist, it just has to be done correctly. The soul of the site will never go away.

I hope some of the relationships that I've built over the last 15 years can transfer in some way. If not, I can send rumors via their site contact form! That's probably what will happen in the end, I won't stop being a camera/lens nerd. I just want to spend my working hours making food.
