The Canon PowerShot G Series May Live On

The V1 lacks the ‘normal’ pins, so only flashes with the new MF connector will work: View attachment 222844
As @neuroanatomist says above, there are only 2 flashes like that, others will need the adapter.

I like the EL100, it would be nice to have a non-manual flash like that for the V1.

My apologies, I didn't see that they removed the pins.

There are a bunch of flashes that work without an adapter.

Then there are the $30 manual flashes will take 10 minutes to learn how to use.
Maybe I'm missing something. From the images, the PowerShot V1 has the same hotshoe as the R50 – no connections for the 'old' EX flashes, not even a main pin connector to trigger a manual flash like the little Godox one. The R50 and the V1 have only the new multifunction shoe contacts. So far, I am not aware of any 3rd party offerings compatible with the MFS (flashes, that is...there is that Tascam thing for microphones).

Edit: took too long to type the above.

I detest pop up flashes on a big and expensive FF camera. However, on a compact ‘point and shoot’ I find the built in flash very useful for adding a little ‘catch light’ in the subjects eyes if I’m photographing people.

I hope the Fuji success made Canon understand what "successful compact cameras" means today. Sensor with good high-ISO performance makes built-in flashes less and less useful - and there are some third party small and cheap units (although they aren't built in . and as long as they can be used).

I by far prefer the body space used for an OVF/EVF - since I can't really use a rear screen but on a tripod.

I can't even use it on a tripod since I never use tripods.
Me want EVF, me not buy without EVF, me unhappy without EVF!

I still want the flash. Yes it'll be weak and make awful red eye but the look it produces is exactly why the G7X and other compacts are still selling out, and why I still have my RX100. No one who wants a compact wants to carry around an external flash.

Well not no one. This was taken with a 580 EX speedlite mounted on my G1Xiii, and bounced off the wall. So just one in fact - me ! ;)

Speaking of that Tascam thing, I was the Embedded World tradeshow this week and about 70% of the videographers shooting promo videos were using the DJI receiver than directly interfaces to the Sony hot shoe.
I hope DJI does a Canon version as well, it is a really nifty setup, the videographer we hired was very happy with it.

I’ll eagerly await to see the specifics on this new G camera. Hopefully Canon will use a 48mp sensor and 50-500 zoom. A G2 was my first canon camera many years ago. I would use this new G camera to supplement my Canon R5 MK 2 for those special occasions when carrying a huge camera is just not practical.

I think the youngin\'s like that direct flash disposable camera look that a small built-in flash can provide. I saw on a forum a while back where one of them was asking \"what filter to use to get that look?\". So, high ISO performance and high end bounce flashes might not get them what they are actually looking for, even if its considered bleh by a \"more trained eye\".

Sounds like follow ons to the G7x (without EVF ) and G5x (with EVF). A replacement for the G5x II with a sensor like the V1 would be on my must have list. If the lens were still fast, the camera would be a little bigger than the G5x II, but I could deal with that if the lens turned out as good as before. The G5x II was not in the market long enough. Good odds that Canon was buying the EVF from Sony and either the deal went south or Covid messed up the supply chain. A G3x replacement would also be a nice touch.
