Canon EOS R1 & Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement coming July 17

I would be surprised if they release any additional things alongside the two cameras. Releasing too many at once would dilute the messaging and these two cameras are already the most anticipated camera releases for a while now.

There is also precedent of Canon announcing a flagship camera without accompanying lenses: the 1DX, 1DX2, and 1DX3 are all standalone announcements. Announcing another camera alongside the flagship is already a deviation.
"Flagships" aside, the R5/R6 announcement happened to include 4 RF lenses + 2 RF extenders and a Pro printer!

The R5 was significantly anticipated given the development announcement earlier and the R/RP being bridging R mount bodies.

It certainly is the best for video. It’s ranked as having equal exposure latitude (real world dynamic range) to the Red V-Raptor-X. That’s no mean feat. I’ve shot with all of these cameras… owned the R3 since launch and only recently sold it. I’ve compared these cameras back to back. I’ve also compared them to my Reds. If you actually shoot with the A9III you would change your tune pretty quick. I was more skeptical than you when I purchased it.

That said, I know many are hoping the bar is so low, that Canon can just deliver a slightly refreshed R3, slap an R1 badge on it and call it a day… That trick is not going to fool everyone.
Sony's video colours do not match up to Canon's. Not even close.

Do you guys think the r5 mark ii will be “worth” the upgrade if I have original r5 . I only shoot birds and have the 100-500. Always trying to improve and wondering if I should get mark ii

It's a hard call, is there anything the R5 doesn't do for you? If I solely shot birds, I'd probably put that money into a lens upgrade... That too depends on what sorts of species you like shooting, along with how and where.

Bit extreme comment. :)
No more extreme than some of the other comments in this thread about it. :)

Good question. In everything it does for bird photography, it’s good enough for me. But, GAS…

We are a production team who (also) covers Keune hair cosmetic events (which happen outside on the sun and inside in the partly lit and dark lit venue with lightshows) and I will tell you, Sony (A7's, even the FX3,..) does a 5x better job than Canon (R5, R3 - not mentioning the R5c). Not only is the noise head and shoulders better (thanks to dual ISO), color correcting and grading (and fixing screw ups like missed exposure) is a lot better on the Sony. File size? Canon is somewhat 3-4x bigger. Color? 2018 times are over.
And I am a Canon user and fan, but there are things where it is just leagues behind its competition.

There's a reason Sony's video product market share dwarfs Canon's.

Thanks for the laugh. Do you even bother actually taking photos/shooting video, or do you just like to talk about specs online?

The A9iii is no doubt an impressive innovation, but it's nowhere near being the "best" MILC for... anything; evidenced by all the pros shunning it. I have no doubt Sony will continue to push the market, and innovate, but the A9iii is nowhere close to being the preferred choice for working professionals, even those in fields where a global shutter has the most value.
Probably true.

Unfortunately French or German stores do not accept preorders.:cry::cry:
After the announcement they usually do. If you're a long-term customer some might accept your request for a preorder before the launch and place it for you the minute preorders go live.

What I don´t like about pre-orders in Germany is you have to pay the entire price the minute the pre order is placed... not knowing how it will take for the product to arrive...

I think you should also consider the price point for what might be minor upgrade for your specific need. Obviously, the AF will be better and the stacked sensor has advantages. But will the AF provide pics you absolutely can´t get with the R5? Is it worth it to pay about 2.000$ for the upgrade?

For me, I recently made the jump from the EOS R to the R5. Why? I figured the R5mkii will be waaaaaaay out of my price league. The advantages of R5mkii over R5 seemed minor to me considering I only do stills photography and my very few videos are fine with HD resolution/ max 4k. What I wanted was more MP (yes, I crop a lot, like shooting in crop mode or cropping out vertical images out of horizontally taken pic) an all-around camera and a landscape specialized camera. I don´t care about video at all...

Then, chance came a long. I got a mint condition (practically brand new) used R5 with a less than 7.000 shutter count, four batteries and grip for 2.300 € from a retiree. Best deal ever :)

And to me, the R5 is a beast and the AF is exceptional! I rarely miss a shot with it! I do shot wildlife and sports and for that is it absolutely amazing and a huge improvement from the EOS R

So, in summary: Find out the few benefits, the cost for the upgrade and decide if it is worth.

My experience is different. But perhaps you have worked more with Sony. I have worked with Sony (side by side with Canon) just on two jobs. And...: I will NOT work with Sony again on video unless something drastically changes.

I do my solo video project on R3 and R5 for years now, made more than 100 of them on these two bodies alone. I have far less experience with Sony, however this is not only my experience and view, but many others individuals and productions. R3 and R5 against Sony hybrid line in video department are not on par, period. But they are still fine, they do the job and Canon will not be doomed because of it.
