Canon EOS R1 & Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement coming July 17

The cooling vents and added cooling option are a great idea, and make me wonder about using the cooling option for astrophotography use. Maybe it would make some great photos for those that don't have a dedicated astrophotography setup.
Running the cooling grip should reduce the body temperature compared to ambient if it is a peltier but I am guessing that it is just a fan. The specs generally say that operating temperature is 0-40C whereas you want the sensor to be lower.
A dew heater would be needed for the lens though
I wonder if they have added any code for sensor shifting to assist in astrophotography?
That would be nice for shorter exposures!

I’ll probably (but not definitely) place a preorder. Then I’ll give careful consideration to what the R1 offers over my R3.
I want to see the full specification list before I preorder anything, at minimum. The R5ii is going to be better than what I'm using - this much I am very confident in, but if I can get away with an R5 on heavy discount instead, I probably will.

Last month, we reported that the Canon EOS R1 and Canon EOS R5 Mark II would be announced during the third week of July. We were asked not to post the exact date at that time, but it appears the exact date of July 17, 2024 is making its way around the web and has

Just curious if we should expect any lens announcements at the same time of the R5 Mk2 and R1 announcements. It would be odd for Canon to only announce two cameras. So far this year the only Canon RF lens announced is the RF 35 mm f1.4 L lens.

If the R1 is to be released in the fourth quarter, will Canon supply the R1 or R3 to photographers in Paris for the Olympic Games? If so, it's a hell of a learning curve for those with access.
The Canon R1 has already been spotted at a few professional sporting events and I expect Canon to supply R1 to photographers for the Olympic Games. I suspect the R1 and R3 layout to be very similar so the learning curve is not too steep.

That’s what I’m wishing too ! If it is , that’s an immediate pass for me . I don’t need another 24mp camera
I have three already, what's one more? ;)

Seriously, though...I would not own both the R3 and the R1, if I get the R1 I would sell the R3. The R8 is great for travel, and my M6 is a full-spectrum conversion.

With each new gear release, I find myself contemplating similar questions. As a former professional photographer, I often asked myself, "What does this new gear offer that my current setup lacks, and will these new/improved features significantly enhance my workflow?" The last part is crucial for me - if I am not struggling with my current gear setup and it is capable of producing satisfactory content, then upgrading would merely be indulging my desire to own the latest equipment. From a practical business perspective, regardless of having the budget for it, it is simply unnecessary.
