Canon EOS R5 Mark II going to 60mp? [CR1]

I sold my R6 because 20 Mpx were not enough for me. To each his own.
Yes, but I think you’d agree that you’re in a specialist field of photography, and maximising detail and possibly cropping is probably an important advantage to you. The 5 series has always been the top of the range GP camera from Canon, and I’m sure that if they brought out an ‘S’ version of the R5, you’d buy it.
Having had a pair of 5DS cameras for the best part of six years now, I’m still not convinced on the advantages most of the time, apart from the ability to crop with impunity.
On the other hand, I won’t let them go………

Meh.....The R5, for me, is pretty much perfect in regards to resolution. I use it with my EF600 F4L iii for birdwatching and have more than enough 'real estate' to crop as needed. I guess a specific 'bird-eye' focus as opposed to animal eye could be useful, maybe? But the animal eye focus already works 97% of the time for me anyhow.

Then when I'm back home I pop the RF50 1.2L on the R5 and get fantastic shots of my daughter that are sharper than any other lens/camera combination I've ever seen. Again, not sure what could get better. When I get a tack-sharp picture of my daughter from 10' away I can zoom in on her pupil and see my reflection in it. I can't imagine how they're going to improve any of this with an R5 ii, I still think it's the best camera ever created.

That's the whole point of my remark: "To each his own" or I could have used internet ymmv. We had a choice 3 years ago between an R5 and an R6, and Canon couldn't keep up with the demand for the R5 so the higher Mpx clearly appealed to very many, not just small specialist areas. You can't be sure I would buy an R5S - I look at all the factors in camera models, and absence of rolling shutter and fast AF, for example, are high up on my list of priorities, and I wouldn't consider an R5S that was worse than the current R5 for those.

I\'d rather it be a stacked sensor at 45MP, with better low light focusing and quality, with NO video features. Some of us pros just want the best still camera, and not pay for stuff we will never use. They can keep their video for The C.

Lol! 60mp!?! Actually i'm still very happy with 24mp. Does anyone really need 60mp?
Great, another one that thinks that their criteria are the only ones that must be valid for the rest of us.
I use 45mp (R5) and 80mp (IQ1 80) and I would be happy to shoot 150mp (IQ4 150) if I could afford it.
That works for me. But I do not denigrate anyone that doesn't need / want more than 24mp (or any other threshold for what matters).

In any case, my problem with this rumor (if true!) is that 60mp doesn't give you much more advantage compared to 45mp in terms of linear resolution. If the rumor is true then other aspects will become important for my decision, specifically AF performance.

I understood your comment; mine was regarding the general purpose nature of the traditional 5 series. Maybe the 6 series line is now the new GP FF camera from Canon. I’ve been surprised at how many of these I’ve seen at various different types of events, used both for video and still.

This rumors seems quite a bit hard to believe considering Canon might release an R5s (or whatever the name) as a high-resolution camera. Going to 60mp with the Mkii, they'd probably have to install at least a 80mp sensor (likely even) in a R5s version in order to really differentiate the cameras.

Therefore, I imagine two possible scenarios:
1. keep the mkii at around 45 MP and release a R5s
2. raise the resolution on the mkii to around 60mp and likely skip the R5s. Instead, they'd improve the high-res feature from the R5

For years now, I have been wondering why camera manufacturers don't offer different choices of sensors within the same camera. It seems like such an easy way to differentiate, listen to customers need and keep the price quite low. At least, as long as those choices only concern the sensor. For example:

Offer a line of R5s:
- basic R5: 45 MP
- R5r: 60 MP (or 70MP)
- R5SR: 100 MP
- R5xy: 45 MP stacked-sensor

The same would work with the R6, in a slightly different way:
- R6 low-light: 18mp and great low-light capabilities
- R6 basic: 24 MP
- R6 adanced 36 MP (should stay beneath the R5 imho)
- R6 with 24 MP stacked sensor

I don't how expensive the costs would be and how much the upgrade of a sensor could cost. But it is kind like the same way it has worked for laptops, computers even Sony playstation for years. And don´t even get me started about the possibilities to customize your new car...

I would absolutely love having two identical bodies to work with while both specialize through the choice of the sensor.

Yes, that's beautiful though, but you may consider abut the scale of numbers; for each R6 or R5 sold, you sell 20 of R50/R100, 50 playstation/xbox, 200 cars and 500 computers, so there's sense, and manufacturing and marketing capabilities, of differentiate the various steps, accessories and models.

8 models for 2 (pro-level) cameras is frankly laughable.
