Canon EOS R50 V Specifications

The R50V has arrived! It is indeed smaller than my R8 and close to the size of my M6II, so the main goal is being fulfilled. It is however incredibly cheap feeling compared to the original M, M6II and R8. Stills mode performs as expected, it is much better than the original M and the eye-AF is both faster and more accurate than the M6II. The shutter is also relatively subtle, so not as much shuttershock in bursts as the M6II (yes, it's MS vs EFCS).
The "register people priority" is very useful, it reliably finds and focuses on the people registered with it, a huge quality of life improvement for school functions and sporting events. I miss having that on the R8.
The front facing record button is completely disabled in stills mode and not available for remapping :(

Adobe pushed an update last night that adds support for both the R50V and the RF-s14-30mm, so that is very timely and convenient.

Movie mode matches the R5II/R8, with one big missing thing: pre-record. Like pre-capture in stills, pre-record in movie mode is very useful for capturing moments when you are too slow to start recording. For a 'video first' camera, this is a surprising feature to leave out.

The kids love the powerzoom, which is indeed fun to use. The camera is coming with us on the family vacation next week, we'll see how it handles Dutch coastal environments and weather. I also want a small lens with a focal length in between 16mm and 28mm!
