Canon has delayed the next EOS R5 Mark II shipments by potentially 6 months.

BS. Both Nikon and SONY also failed to satisfy the demand. a1 was backordered, z9 and z8 were backordered. And PS5 shortages were a much bigger blow to SONY face than anything camera related. Oh, and Fujifilm also had x100v backordered earlier this year.
The A1 was never backordered. You maybe had to wait a couple weeks if you weren't on the ball with a preorder. SPS members were prioritized first wave but that didn't take long to go through.
Z8 was not backordered. Again, maybe a few weeks wait if you didn't have a preorder.
Z9 was in shorter supply. About a month, at most 2 months to get if you didn't have a preorder.

Things that were in short supply....D850...not great....500PF...complete joke
Also some of my friends had to wait ~8months to get a Sony 600GM and/or 400GM but that was in 2020/21 when the world was in chaos and I was told by the Sony Canada rep that a lot of production had to go to the Olympics and the new AP contract so it compounded the COVID stuff for normal consumers.

So none of the competition is immune to this. But 6 months is pretty extreme for a very popular camera. I'd be grabbing the few remaining kits and selling off the lens if one really wants an R5II before 2025.

Well according to their Internet listing most German retailers claim an availability somewhere between 3 weeks and 3 months. However, I doubt that this is an assured delivery date by canon but rather an estimated guess without knowing yesterday statement from canon about the additional delays.
In Germany, "expected in 1-3 Month" is kind a like a placeholder for "we don´t know when it will be delivered". I think it is the Fotokoch online shop, which actually explains their different phrases about possible delivery times. They state that "expected in 1-3 Month" means that delivery is out of their control and that it can take longer than three months.

On a similar note, I once read that within the "consumer transparency law/ regulations", which e.g makes sure that grocery retailers have to list their ingredients and calorie count, there is a section which requires retailers of electronic goods (and others) to give information about delivery times, fees and methods. Therefore, I made the assumption, that camera stores just go with "1-3 months" delivery in order to fulfill their duty.

ACFoto still have "3 weeks" on their website. Maybe they forgot to correct?

I wanted to splurge on the locking hot shoe cover.
You'd better splurge twice: buy a powertool to remove the hot shoe cover. It seems it is intended never to be removed once it's fixed in place.

The hotshoe cover is probably designed by the same genius that designed lens and body caps that fit in only one way.

Canon deserves an oscar for the silliest lens and body caps. It would be so easy - look at 3rd. party manufacturers - to fix this incomprehensible mistake.
Maybe it's time for AI to take over?

Last time a1 was backordered was this Spring.

Push on the lens side towards the back, that takes almost no effort on my R5II:

Using the sides and/or the ‘button’ doesn’t work for me, unless I use a stupid amount of force.

Producing lens caps and hot shoe cover by your own is a sign of hybris and a realy bad omen - remember the other Camera-Manufacturer who did it and escaped bancrupcy by a whisker ...

cap.jpgIt's very easy for me to remove. You put your fingernail in the gap behind the button (above the arrow) and then you slide toward you in the same direction as the arrow. Not much force needed at all. I don't actually press down on the top of the button.

There is a manufacturer, I've seen an offer, I just don't know where. But the problem of lens caps was addressed here https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4640776. I bought 5 RF lens caps on Aliexpress with a price of $0.32 each, but haven't adjusted them yet.
If you like orange: Achatzi in Germany sells RF lens caps that can be mounted in all positions: https://www.achatzi.de/achatzi-rf-objektivrueckdeckel

Be aware that not all body caps and lens caps are equal: Canon body caps are made of a plastic composite that reduces “shavings” coming of the cap by twisting it in place and removing it. These “shavings” may cause dust on the sensor.

I wonder if there are third party body- lens caps that work better? Any suggestions anybody?
Yes, I wrote it in a former post : Achatzi in Bad Laasphe sell lenscaps which can be mounted in 120 degree positions (Euro 15 a piece). Not cheap, but well made. Coincidence: I just ordered 4 more...
And they can be used for EF lenses too.
