Canon officially announces the Canon EOS R5 Mark II

Ok. I wonder how long it will take Canon to implement LUTs in the R5 mk1 via an update.
They won't. The R5 has what it has. There were a lot of people hoping the 30 min recording limit would also be removed around the time v2.0 firmware was released. I said the same thing then. Its not going to happen. Its one of the key differentiators between it and the R5 C.

At this point the R5 will continue to receive incremental updates, but I wouldn't hold my breath for anything significant. Its evolved into quite a camera the last 4 years. I'm still very happy I waited for the R5 C.

I was even OK with CLOG3 in my R5 C, but everybody and their mother screamed bloody murder "how could you Canon" and now the new models have CLOG2 and full size HDMI.

The AI features are cool too. They could probably save all of this for POST, but I guess the ability to send stuff out right from the camera is important for many folks.

I didn't see any actual specs for the new battery either. So, we need to wait for this, I guess. The AI and neuro processing (sharpening) is going to draw power. How much is anyone's guess at the moment. They are still going to be great performers though.

Hmmm.... as an old DSLR User i am not that fascinated by the R5II - the best i could see is the nicer Bodyshape ( Viewfinder ) ;-) .

-> missing the AF-Comtroller like the R3/1
-> missing Fotos of the Backside of the R5II ?

After a While we will see if i switch to Mirrorlesss sometimes.
( For now my restrictions rely on Video - Blackmagic Design PHYXIS 6K EF-Mount a better Solution for me ? )

Greetings from rainy Germany

Bernd
Since I don't care about video, I'm still a DSLR user (I have a well-loved and still running strong 5Ds for hi-res and a 6DM2 for daily use). I agree with you that there a too many whistle and bells and some that are missing that just isn't going to get me to upgrade to mirrorless yet at that price. I have to step back and really think it through rather than jump on the pre-order bandwagon. Right now I'm still looking at the R3/R6M2. I'm really interested if there's a R6M3 on the horizon. My 6DM2 would probably be the first camera I replace with mirrorless.

What a laughing stock this "rumors" site has become after Japanese rumors resource Nokishita closed in 2022. No leaked photos of R5 II until the release date, lol. Just a dumpster of SEO content and ads.
Yet CR has kept us so up to date that we have no significant surprises on launch date, and we've been very well informed on Canon's moving targets (with specs and dates) for many years.

Your remark is not logical, humorous, or constructive. This pretty much defines "pointless" for me.

Best regards,
YL

Very good camera no doubt. Canon knows its market. I was hoping originally it might be a 60MP camera but 45MP is still high MP’s. FPS increase is in diminishing returns territory. Pre-capture is very useful for sports / wildlife. It’s all about how good focusing is. I’m sure it will have teething issues. Hopefully it will be great. The R5 is a great camera so I’m not in a rush but I still have DSLR’s I may trade in for one.

Does someone know if the camera has a medium/small RAW option as the late 5D series had? Or do we get the same current RAW/CRAW configuration?
mRAW and sRAW were not actually RAW and RF bodies only have had cRAW. If you were happy with m/sRAW, give HEIF a try, it should have the same limits as m/sRAW while still being ‘better than jpeg’.

I notice from the specs for the standard battery grip (BG-R20) that it works with the R5, R6, R6 Mark II and the new R5 Mark II. Which pretty much means that the body is almost exactly the same as the Mark I. It does look that way.

It’s nice they changed the file types for video. Did they do that? The file formats on the R5 were hard to work with with video unless you had better processors at the time.

The big question is dynamic range.. It leaves me wondering if there will be an r5c mark 2. How can I ask CR this without prompting a response that will break any NDA’s . Could you imagine writing about an r5c mark 2?

I remember hearing there were 3 cameras going to be released? R5mk2 looks pretty cool.

Comparisons between R5c and r5 mk2 in video will be a huge decider for filmmakers.
