Is The Canon EOS R6 Mark III Coming in May?

Would it save battery life?
The EVF uses more than the rear screen anyway.
I've just bought the new battery grip and it lasts forever: I shot 5000 images over 3 hours and still had over 40% battery left on my R6 ii
Extrapolating from my TV: OLED uses less power in dark scenes, but in regular and bright scenes it starts using a lot more power than backlit screens.

So, black cats in a coal mine would be a good subject to get into for the power savers among us :)

Would likely be a nice power saver for those that use the regular info screen on the back a lot.

Back in December 2024 I had a very brief and quick conversation with neuroanatomist about this exact camera. I had 2 R6Mii and bg-10 etc. I did not know how soon the mark3 would come, it's price and more. My assumptions where at the time, it would use the new BG, probably the new L6p battery, a cfexpress card. It may have the same sensor as the R3, it may have the accelerator chip, it may, it may...

Dec 27, Canon had the R3 as refurb for $2999 and I asked for what I expected the answer would be, just get those, which I did, bought 2 R3.
KEH took all my old gear and I had the R3 NOW, sold all to about $2000 short or total cost, win-win. I figured the new mark 3 2499? 2799, I don't know, new grip, cost and release date I did not know, but here was R3 and millions of videos and reviews I do know.

I was raised on 35mm, no editing, no cropping, buy longer lenses etc. The camera does not take the picture, the photographer does, buy glass buy glass and so on. I made a promise to my better half at the 2 R6MII, I was happy and no more cameras, but this one could not be ignored. As time goes on they will continue to make more and better, I invested all the rest of my time and money in glass.

I wish all well with the M2 and M3 if and when it arrives, but I can not be beat on my decision to buy the R3.
Once again thanks to neuroanatomist, he responded very quickly to my which do I get, should I buy.. with very straight forward answers from an R3 owner, and I will not look back, or forward to more bodies, 24MP is perfect for everything I shoot and I do not crop, I buy longer lenses. Older EF 500mm and EF 600 are perfect on these cameras with adapters.

If it means tilt and hinge like a9iii or Z8, I'd like it! It enables shooting from hip both in landscape and portrait oreintations.
The only person that i know who had been very verbose about the hinge on Canon products is Jared Polin....fair play, it sounds like canon have finally listened to his observation / request. I've never use a Sony camera so i don't know what life is like on the "other side" of the river. I've always enjoyed my limited use of the flippy LCD screen. However, I find composing with it really hard and I'm far more adpet at using the EVF where possible.
There was a patent a while back about a flippy EVF instead, which would be a novel feature.

Would be great to know the timing of the announcement, if you get that information beforehand. Stay up late on 3/25 for a midnight preorder, or get up early the next morning for a 6a preorder. IIRC, the last few have dropped at midnight Eastern time.
I buy mine grey market from hong kong....so I have to wait a few months anyhow. Only crazy people buy new release RRP prices here in the UK.
We call it "rip off" Britain for good reason. the UK P is higher than both USD and Euro and yet we have to entertain a £ per $ valuation. the UK supply is deliberately restricted so the RRP is aheared to by all of the retailer adding to the false perception of value and demand.

I sold my R8 a few months back in anticipation and only having only one camera body (R6ii) is a real bind. If this camera is delayed, i may well pickup another R6ii (it's such a good new price a the moment) and sell one when the R6iii is readily available.
I'm looking forwards to having both a R6ii and R6iii in my camera bag. I think the R6iii offers a few nice upgrades and occasional abilities over the R6ii, 14 bit ES with a 6.5 m/s sensr read out is very welcome. However I suspect that the R6ii will have a wee bit better noise and DR in comparison.

With the ES frame rate being more usable due tot he faster snesor readout, one wonders if Canon will increase the buffer memory. Or make it look more buffer by reducing the top ES frame rate to only 30fps, which would yeild approx 3.3 seconds burst for it's 100 shots. The R6ii currently has an ES max frame rate of 40fps, which fills the buffer in only 2.5 secs for the same 100 shots.

If the current rumour specs are true, one does wonder about the R6iii being a R3 lite and effectively killing any R3 future sales. Sure the build, and buffer won't be the same....however....their other specs are very similar.

Totally unrelated but the Firmware release today for the R1 and R5 II. Does anyone know if this was supposed to be the anticipated BIG firmware release?
No, supposedly that is still coming in a month or two. Probably lots of feedback to Canon about people seeing the thermometer icon, so they increased the threshold for that in this minor update.

Maybe they’ll increase the r1 mp count , given all the feedback they must have heard there :ROFLMAO:
Great idea, and too bad Canon can't implement that via firmware for the R1. But only because of the cross-type AF. If they hadn't put that in the R1, dual pixel output could have been leveraged to double the pixel count. Easy peasy.

In the US, the rebate/sale ends of April 6. Does anyone know what happens to the rebates on the following weeks? I want buy a r6mkii (or mkiii) for my trip on 4/24.
If you want to buy a new R6 for a trip in April, go with the mark ii when it's on sale. The mark iii, even if it's announced in may, won't be out for weeks or months after that…
I was hoping to use it for an event at the end of June, but it will probably arrive too late for me.

About that… Do you think the R6 mark iii will be really better than the R5 mark ii for low light photography?
I see very little effective difference between my R8 and R5II after running the images through DxO, when viewed on screen. But my low light shots are either my kids or macro, not wedding dances for paying customers.

Then, thanks Jared!
I'm not used to articulating screens either; often use EVF on those bodies. I do like the tilt option! I compare them to composition with Rollieflex cameras.
