Show your Bird Portraits

Despite the fact that my bird book says these yellow birds are prevalent in my area, they are extremely rare in my neighborhood: American Goldfinch [M6MkII and adapted EF 70-300II @300x1.6; ISO 2500 & 1/500s)

It is a delightful-looking bird. This is a mating male (I think).

Nice shot of a beautiful bird. It is indeed a male American Goldfinch (breeding plumage).

Correct this is a breeding male. Non breeding season the males turn dull olive and look just like the females

Not on that list is the Kingfisher. It's been very rare this year. We managed to get one at the time of the wren at the same spot a week ago. It wasn't close, and I put my RF 100-500mm on my wife's R7 to get extra reach, and here it is upscaled 2x in Topaz. Upscaling in Topaz can llook very artefactual but this one is reasonable. (She had the RF 100-400 when she took the wren).

Spend some time today watching the White Terns trying to get their fledgling to the ocean. It already can fly but is using it's abilities just to change branches :). At some moments it was rather defensive but a hug made it airborne - just to land on nearby branch . I'm pretty sure in the next days it will go to catch it's very own fish or squid!
