Show your Bird Portraits

Bristle-thighed Curlew. First opportunity to take a low-level shots (still hot weather but by far not as hot as in August - October as the shots in the years before). After few weeks of respiratory problems at the end of the walk I was really in bad shape... The Laysan Albatross photo is from 70 (+) meters at the very end of my "adventure".
P.S. The background after the first photo is kind of the style of "V. van Gogh painting" (and I don't like it...) but it's what it's...

Very frustrating yesterday, I got for the first time some shots of a Great Cormorant in full breeding colours sporting a Mohican hairstyle. The bird was 65m away and just in range of 800mm on the R5ii. Then, this morning, I mistakenly formatted the memory card forgetting I hadn't downloaded! Fortunately my wife had a shot from the RF 100-400mm on the R7. The tiny image is a decent for-the-record shot. I also upscaled it 3.4x with Topaz, shown below, for amusement.

A few from along the San Diego River during January.

A Burrowing Owl who decided to make a wintering spot amongst the rocks. After over an hour and half it came out onto a rock and did a little preening before going to hunt. 1/4 second shutter is longest I can seem to get on any animal.

A juvenile Tri-colored Heron showing off its catch.

A Ridgeway's Rail crossing the small lagoon.

Very nice shots. I must find an excuse to visit San Diego. The Redhead is very similar to a Pochard, which we have in Europe.

Thanks Alan! We get Canvasbacks, which are very similar to the Pochard's, but unfortunately in limited numbers on the higher elevation lakes. Did have a female at a local lake for a couple of days during migration last year.

Really great shots ERHP!
Concerning the differences between these 3 species pay attention to the form of the head and the color/form of the bill. Otherwise pretty similar ducks...
Edited: good luck with the hybrids (but in general most of the ducks are nasty birds concerning the hybridization:)).
My only contribution from today: House finch.

Well, I probably should buy Topaz. Impressive difference between the two images and most importantly my bellowed DxO can't do this...

Have you tried to recover your photos using recovery software on the formatted card?
Easeus has a MAC alternative for Recuva (Recuva is Windows only).

Googled Lexar recovery tool and downloaded free app from Lexar that worked. Apple had to be overridden as it couldn't verify it wasn't malware, but that was highly unlikely as it came from lexar.com. Unfortunately, I had overwritten the files I wanted, but there was one of a cormorant in flight recovered that I wanted as it was so close (R5ii/800mm). Thanks for inspiring me.

You are welcome, the breeding season will last a bit longer, so I hope you can go back and have another go at the “mohicans”.
