The EF 400 f/4L should give a decent idea on the size and price, the front element should have the same 100mm diameter.

That is a DO lens, though.
It would be tough to compare the length.

I am very happy with Canon, but I can\'t lie, Sony is killing it on lenses right now. And I prefer how they treat their premium line more than how Canon does L right now. I like the new 70-200 Z, but the engineered plastics for the L primes leaves a lot to be desired.

I do think though that end of this year, or next year Canon will have a lot of great Mk. II refreshes and maybe another halo lens.

Brother. f 2.8 vs f2. Sony gets the credit man. Canon got their flowers for the 28-70 f2, this is fair praise.

Oh I didn't mean that I had structural issues with them, I just don't think they feel great in the hand. Which optically is irrelevant, but for each brand's premium line I do think matters. Albiet a preference issue.

Moreover, the engineered plastics do not act as heatsinks in cold weather so it is easier to hand hold. I much prefer the engineered plastics to metal.
