The Canon Cinema C80 is coming this week

I'm surprised. I have a C400 on order, but I'm actually just considering waiting for the C80 based on price difference alone. I have having the LCD on the back of the camera, but I've discovered that a V-mount rig on my R5c and a second monitor fixes that issue. The SDI port fixes my major issue with the C70. I feel like there must be some other information about open gate on the C70/C400 sensor on some future update that might give more segmentation between the two cameras. I can't see why Canon would add an open gate sensor and the complicated ND filter if they weren't going to give us open gate.

The article mentions the unannounced body so please let it be an R7M2 fitting of the legacy of the 7DM2! The sensor IS the camera -- that makes the R7 5 yrs old! Nikon is rumored to be updating the Z50 soon, so maybe Canon will counter.

Looks like a super camera for small production houses working in the commercial space. Plus it seems to have most of the features someone moving up from Mirrorless cameras would want.

The full frame sensor is a big vote in its favour, its what always stopped me from seriously considering the c70.

There’s is a lot to like here. The updated hinge is welcomed. Triple base ISO sounds good. Though, that DGO sensor in a full frame configuration might have been even better? Two notable missing features:
• IBIS
• Anamorphic support
Other than those two, this camera checks most the boxes for my use case. I’m still waiting to see what Panasonic will offer with the SH1 Mk2… rumor is it will have internal EVND. And of course need to see Sony’s FX answer. Interesting times indeed… this one came out of the blue.

Most cinematographers don't want IBIS and will use a gimbal or other forms of devices/methods to stabilize footage. Plus most RF lens that you'd like use for this camera (with the main exception being the 28-70 F2) doesn't have IS on the lens.

Still an absolute steal for the price.. Makes me wonder if Nikon/RED knew of the release and price for the C80 and caused the prices to drop due to the features.

If they could pull it off at this point on FF and 6K it would be already in C400. Also, "better" depends in what. If implemented this way it's not better in readout speed and readout speed of C400/C80 for FF is managed to fit on the border for proper motion and superior to C70/C300mk3.

DR from this sensor is great and highlight performance is practically the same as C70/C300mk3. Those two have upper hand in shadows but not much, while C400/C80 will be superior in low light due to tripple base ISO.
