The Canon Cinema C80 is coming this week

Most cinematographers don't want IBIS and will use a gimbal or other forms of devices/methods to stabilize footage. Plus most RF lens that you'd like use for this camera (with the main exception being the 28-70 F2) doesn't have IS on the lens.

Still an absolute steal for the price.. Makes me wonder if Nikon/RED knew of the release and price for the C80 and caused the prices to drop due to the features.
As a cinematographer I would love ibis( and the ability to turn it off) as would many people I work with, especially with a cmos sensor.
Ibis is not as big of a deal with a global shutter but with a cmos it would be great. Cinema is changing and someday I believe cinema cameras will ibis. The DJI cinema camera is awesome to work with, especially for action sports. I run 2 r3s mostly and they have pretty much replaced my c300mkiii and c70 for most jobs. Sure bigger jobs that require jamming and sdi it is great to have but the mirrorless cameras are changing so much of the cinema world. Sony and red really helped push this new evolution and canon is doing a pretty great job of catching up and helping push forward. I do hope people don’t run out and throw all their money into these new cameras and that they think about what they currently have and ask themselves will these tools make me a better creative? Anyway thanks for your comment and hopefully someone finds our dialogue useful

Ibis is cool but I still use the c70 over my R3 100% of the time if someone just wants video. The extra weight or building a rig greatly stabilizes the footage and gives it a nice organic look in motion. IBIS is gimbal like but sucks a bit when you walk making it not too much different from a rigged up heavy camera.

If they could pull it off at this point on FF and 6K it would be already in C400. Also, "better" depends in what. If implemented this way it's not better in readout speed and readout speed of C400/C80 for FF is managed to fit on the border for proper motion and superior to C70/C300mk3.

DR from this sensor is great and highlight performance is practically the same as C70/C300mk3. Those two have upper hand in shadows but not much, while C400/C80 will be superior in low light due to tripple base ISO.
one video showed that the c80 has less noise even at base in the dark areas over the c70. DR still migth be better on the c70 but noise performance is a lot better on the c80. We arent even going to talk about a very usable iso 12800

DR and low light shadow performance are related but separate properties. Tripple base ISO is advantage for the latter, perhaps one of the reasons there is no DGO.

ARRI has best DR by far but good luck with high ISO push.

Now...I'd like to see R1C with active cooling, SDI and

As a cinematographer, if you had to choose between internal NDs and IBIS, what would you choose ?

; )
If I had a global shutter I would take nd’s. One of my favorite things about the rf is the adaptor with the vnd and or polarizer. It is so nice to be able to have your aperture set and be able to be filming action and roll the vnd while shooting and not have that image get ruined. But to better answer the question if we are talking rf mount I would like the option of Ibis over a built in nd

But that is the fun of individual preference. But walking and Ibis pretty much never works out. I just wish all these cinema cameras were global shutters. I like what red has done but as a company I cannot stand them. Maybe with Nikon in charge I’ll consider pickin up a Komodo or something. What do you shoot mostly?

I think a lot of people are pairing the C400 with the C80 incorrectly. The C70 has the same sensor as the C300 Mark III. If anything, the C400 is really the C200 Mark II replacement - which makes sense because the C200 was really on an island of it's own. The C80 will have the same sensor as the eventual C300 Mark IV replacement which Canon will rebrand as the C600 or something like that next year or so.

No Neuro. You are being unnecessarily rude. When DBounce wrote his comment, ND's were not mentioned. I know because I noticed that too.
Did you call the camera a 'big miss' for lacking something it actually has? No. The point is, when something is announced not all the features will be immediately listed. Also, there were images of the camera included in the released materials, and those images included this:

Finally, someone replied to @DBounce <20 minutes after his post that NDs are included, probably because that person actually bothered to look closely.

Admittedly, I know that @DBounce has a history of jumping to negative conclusions based on limited or outright incorrect data, like the time he claimed that the R3's specified 30 fps was just marketing hype, based on some YouTuber's report that it only shot at 22 fps because the guy couldn't be bothered to RTFM and was using a shutter speed too slow for 30 fps.
