Luckily he declined (and shared the quite funny chat on social media).

I consider this like the usual NDA/embargo on things, it's not so much about the dollar amount of damages mentioned in the NDA, it's about never getting pre-access again. Canon rumours is likely a lot more informal, but the goal is to keep sources sourcing, not burn them on a single story

Talking about NDAs, my USA coworkers pointed out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_performance to me a while back. Not all NDAs use fines as a stick, it can be as crude as 'feed all your data carriers into a shredder' if you decided to 'backup' things from your former employer.

I will be waiting for all video-related feature leaks of this camera. If they match (it would be great if they exceed) the capabilities of R5C, I will sell my R5c while I can get a good price on it. I really hope that my 2 cages fit the new R52! Exciting times...

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II is now in the hands of people outside of the closed testing circle of Canon.

We have now seen some images of the camera, but cannot post them in any way shape or form. This is standard practice for us, but I'm sure other sites will be posting images in the near future. Or we will get permission to do so.

If Canon puts a GPS in it, then it's too good to believe. There should be a catch. There will be a bummer...

I hope the $3999 sticks. Seems like Sony offered Canon a window to up-market the R5 series when they released the A9III at the same price as a flagship body. I know, I know, GS and all that. But still, pricing is pricing.

I also hope there is a regular non-cooling battery grip option. I like the BG, but hate paying $350, doing so only grudgingly. But the cooling one is going to be $1k.

That'd be amazing! Also, I'm curious if 8K60p is in the cards AND if the "built in ND filter in an R5 series camera" patent will be implemented in the R5 Mark II

This indeed sounds like an excellent stepup from the R5 mk1 that address some of the major concerns.

Better cooling is always welcome for elecronics. Stacked sensor will bring a lot to the table.

This already looks good for an announcement in june.

I am looking forward to it. Not the price in JPY though.

So it’s basically an a1 three years later, way to stay competitive Canon! Like seriously how does the R6 Mark II shoot 40fps and now a year and a half later and with a stacked sensor this is still only doing 30fps?

So when will Sony implement eye-control AF? And have something close to dual-pixel/quad-pixel AF? Yes, Canon are now about to launch something that beats the A1 in many ways at a lesser cost and with an available lens lineup that blows just about every alternative out of the water. And it's not their top model but two steps down the ladder.

How would you frame your picture without a video feed to the evf and lcd? I don’t think you’ll like a mirrorless camera without video function, unless you’re after kodak brownie box level of features.

This has been done to death. The hybrid shooter market is significant, and selling more of a model means the price is actually lower. The 'pure photography' Nikon Df was quite similar to the D610, but cost more.

Well I'd sure hope Canon can one up what will be a 3.5 year old camera when the R5II finally ships. But what will happen in Nov 2024 when the A1II comes out? 50MP @ 60FPS with flawless pre-capture implementation and who knows what other goodies Sony will have cooked up by then?
The R5II will have to sell at a significant discount to the A1II if it is going to only match the A1 in most of the fundamental features.
