Canon has delayed the next EOS R5 Mark II shipments by potentially 6 months.

I placed my order for an R5m2 body on Amazon on August 21st. Estimated shipping was originally Sept 10 - Oct 10. I just got a shipping confirmation that it's arriving Thursday :)

Don't lose hope, people!
You will like it, I used it again the other night and it is growing on me. I won't use it for sports because of the small buffer not lending itself to XC and track where there are long lines of athletes moving through at small and steady intervals, this is where the R3 really shines, that and the tracking. I tried to get the family to go on a waterfall hike this week but no bueno.

Ok, let's put our tinfoil hats on: But for some reason I'm starting to think there's more to this story.

Did you guys notice almost no "heavy weight" YouTubers published full reviews?

  1. Three Blind men and an elephant (Hugh Brownstone): Nothing (unsurprising, he's usually focused on Nikon, Sony and Leica)
  2. Manny Ortiz: Just a pre-review from before release.
  3. Taylor Jackson: No full review, just a few snippets on his 35mm and 24-105mm.
  4. Jared Polin: An unboxing, pre-review, a Z8 sensor comparison, but no full review.
  5. Matt Granger: Just comments from before release.
  6. Tony/Chelsea: Pre-release and a follow-up video with comments.
  7. Ted Forbes: Pre-review from before release.
  8. Dustin Abbott: Nothing.
  9. Peter McKinnon: Pre-review from before release.
  10. *************: Just a post saying he was testing, but no review (nor anything, really)
  11. Gordon Laing: First looks only.
Full Reviews:
  1. Peta Pixel (Chris/Jordan): Full review, but almost as a follow-up from the pre-review.
  2. Jan Wegener: One of the few more throughly and complete reviews.

I shoot a lot of sports too (middle school, so it's not super fast), but use the highest speed burst mode sparingly. I strongly considered an R3, but I'm very interested in Action Priority, as I shoot a ton of volleyball and basketball.
The major factor was honestly resolution. I also shoot a lot of rock climbing, which is not too far off from landscape photography in that you're showcasing gorgeous locations and want ALL THE DETAILS. I love making enormous, wall-sized prints.

What's your point? Do you think the camera is shit, or maybe they just didn't send out review copies? Jared Polin has been using his pretty regularly, and posting about it on his IG, he just doesn't have enough for a full review yet.

I just find it odd, really. Normally all of these reviewers rush to get their videos out, why the radio silence?

No I don't think it's shit, quite the contrary. But perhaps there's some play from Canon's part other than simply stock availability.

I wonder if they're just not sending them out as freely to anyone with a YT channel anymore. I would honestly assume any review unit is still being used at the Paralympics.

I'm just getting up to speed on the R5m2. I found a way that I could shoot fully electronic shutter with a 3 shot exposure bracket (quickly in servo mode) in Manual for each exposure button press (and that I could turn on or off a generated sound to mimic the shutter).

I never found a way to do this on my R5 since in (full electronic shutter) servo mode it wouldn't stop taking shots after the desired 3. If anyone knows how to make this work on a R5 then let me know.

Th

This is the way a thread should go - important stuff not splitting hairs rancorously.
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:! Well, lets say first: I'm solo Nikon user and Nikon has the same problems (I have no idea about Sony...).
But when you are frustrated by the pace of availability of your favorite (aka "GAS") in this particular conversation you may find really nice ideas !
Just "drink responsibly" or the next morning when your order arrives you may not be able to open the box !

I noticed a new menu item: “limit continuous shot count”: https://cam.start.canon/en/C017/manual/html/UG-09_Custom_0030.html#Custom_0030_3

I think setting that to ‘3’ might do what you want.

Perhaps tits because of he revenue from the affiliate links? No cameras for people to buy through the links after seeing a review video, so why post a video that is no longer interesting when the cameras finally do arrive? Just a thought..

And while I can enjoy some Norwegian Vodka that is absolutely amazing, made with potatoes. When I’m in need of some extra chest hair I break out a bottle of Laphroaig, sickest whisky there is.

6 months? You gotta be kidding me.
If it is indeed the magnesium supply holding things up, then that's plain old silly. Magnesium alloy is 1960s technology. Why not make the R5 bodies out of ABS plastic (like the cheap drebels) or some other synthetic material. ABS plastic is tough stuff - they make whitewater canoes and car bumpers out of this material. It's lighter than metal and a lot easier on the hands when it is -20C or below. Plus it is a lot cheaper which means more profit.
A lot of composites and plastics are used in lens bodies nowadays. Time to do the same for camera bodies.

We've been through this before. If you don't have a basic understanding of R&D, materials, manufacturing, geopolitics and how they're all related, it's probably best to sit this one out.

No, car bumpers are not made out of ABS plastic, the bumper cover is. The bumper cover is there for aesthetics, not to save your life in a crash.

I just spoke to Wex and they refused to tell me where I am in the queue for my preorder! How did you get that info from them?! Anyhow, I ordered a handful of LP-E6P batteries with the camera, and they're now in stock, and will work with my R5C so I'm collecting them tomorrow. Some small consolation!
I ordered 2 weeks after the announcement and spoke to them around the 1st week of August to sort of get an idea what the likelihood was of getting one. All they said at the time was there were a few hundred in front of me in the queue but couldn’t give an exact figure. At that time I was told they hadn’t been told by Canon UK that the camera was getting released on 20th August, or how many they were getting allocated.

Have tried with both my local store and contacting their main sales number on website to find out more since camera released with no real info apart from they have more on order.
