Canon has announced the Canon Powershot V1 in the quietest announcement ever. I think everything we told you was accurate, and here are the details as we know them right now.

Was the EOS M2 launch like this? I don’t recall. I did buy one on Amazon when my M died (getting a new M2 was $20 more than Canon’s flat repair charge for the M).

it could have been, but i still thought we had more information at the time. The M3 was like that too, Asia only.

I'm rather sad that this wont' be in Vietnam, since I'm there in April and May.

More details now on video recording times. before anyone jumps off a cliff, i presume those are with thresholds set to normal.

It looks like a neat little and yet capable camera. DPAF and 30 FPS sound really great for such a package and I´m sure it will sell like hot cakes. I'm wondering a little bit about the weight of the camera. 426gr is awfully close to the R8 with 461gr (with battery, SD card). Of course, the R8 has to add a lens, but I honestly thought the Powershot would come in at around 350gr (or maybe less), but I guess active cooling and building it accordingly came with a price. I'm also guessing, people who buy the Powershot are not in the market for an interchangeable camera (or already have one) and therefore it really doesn't matter.

After a quick comparison, I'm personally more drawn to getting a R8 (maybe with the 28mm pancake) as a lightweight option, since it is not that much heavier and gives me the flexibility to go with different set ups.

it's a solid camera for sure given the size of it.

the heat management most likely contributed a lot to the size.

also 15 fps mechanical shutter is no joke either.

Thank you for looking up the information and putting it all together! Sounds like a lot of work!

There is not a word yet on the German websites (canon or camera retailers) so far.
for now it seems Asia only.

There is a USB-C port, but no word on if it's a charging port. if it can't charge the camera, then I'm not sure it would release in Europe

The other way around. If you can do charging with the port, it HAS to be an USB-C port.
An USB-C port without charging-ability is definitely allowed in EU.

It is to make one charger (and cable) rule all direct chargeable devices.

Looks nice and great sensor, but I'm quite suprised by the inusual zoom lens focal of 16 to 50mm (equivalent). I would have preferred a 24-105mm equivalent. 16 to 50 are the usual focals in mobile phones, I want a short tele at least. Then I would buy in a second!

Looks really oriented to the 4K video.

Except the fact that they have not included the horse and bird eye AF, it seems like a quite nice little camera with great features. When the sensor readout is not too slow and the battery life is good, then I guess there will be a lot of potential customers!
