BIRD IN FLIGHT ONLY -- share your BIF photos here

I found this today going through some things. About a 10% crop on the right side to keep the space in the front. Handheld, I don't like those gimbal things. Shot at f/8, so that 200-800 would have had no problem. It really is one of my favourite birds. I'm not a birder though.

Great shot, and hand holding 4.5kg is nothing to be ashamed of either!

Alan did say all I can say concerning the photo except yours: "It really is one of my favourite birds" - few months ago I posted a close portrait of this bird (from the Zoo) in the "Portraits" and EricN made a comment "Looks like a 56 years old actress after her third divorce", or something very similar (according to me he was 100% right) :p.
As everything else everyone has a different favorites for birds and it's more than fine:)!

I am starting to play with pre-capture.

Poor light: R1, 500 f/4 II, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 12,800

The last one definitely isn't great. But, I like the sequence as a whole. This is with 30 fps. Also, I am trying to learn what the R1 can do. The AF is keeping up better than the R5, but small birds are still faster. Any tips would be appreciated.

Looking good. I see you are already on 12.800 ISO. Shutterspeed of 1/3200 or 1/2500 would freeze the wings a tad more. ...if you like that. At cost of more noise.
